ACW using Principles of War rules
« on: September 19, 2018, 08:03:51 PM »
ACW game on Monday, using PoW Version II

All figures are from my collection!

First two moves using the hidden movement bases (I had 1 dummy base, The Rebs had 3). Dummy movement bases are dependent on how good your CiC is and then all bases move with his type of dice. Square bases have Formed Troop (column) on them and the long rectangular have troops deployed (in line).
Good Commander - 3 Dummy bases - Rolls D ave
Regular Commander - 2 Dummy bases - Rolls D6
Poor Commander - 1 Dummy base - Rolls D4

Table from Union Side

Each turn, each "base" has a chance to spot one of the enemies bases. Turn 2, one of the Union base was spotted and had to be deployed. Confederates on left of Picture

Turn 3 - More Union troops were revealed. The Union spotting was atrocious, as were my dice all game!

Union Troops placed from movement base.

The Rebs deployed off their movement bases over turns 4 - 5, taking a few casualties, but passed all morale check (Mace likes rules where you have to roll low! Confederates are occupying the lane.

Due to poor commanders for the Union, deploying was very challenging, as the units can only do things if you have enough pips on the dice.

Turn 6 - Union left were faring better due to a better commander (rolling D6).

Turn 7 - It all went pear shaped for the Union morale wise. Although they cause an awful lot of casualties on the Rebs, but the Rebs passed all morale test. Union not so well, three units had to retire shaken.

The flag bearer (with the red base) are the Shaken markers

Turn 8 - The Union mounted infantry move up and give the guns a volley, PAH!, 1 casualty to the Rebs. The Rebs caused 6 casualties to the Mounted Infantry, who, in morale phase, yep you guessed it "Retire Shaken"

Getting into close range !

Union Regt left isolated due to other units retiring

Reb center was feeling secure

Fire fight in the center of the Union line

The union were under the cosh, but not close to breaking, as casualties within each unit was very light, but rubbish morale dicec by me caused the problems.
Another interesting and enjoyable game of PoW.

If it isn't enjoyable, it isn't gaming!

Hi John
Always enjoyed playing these rules. Been playing them off and on since the first edition. Still have all the magazine that you chaps put together.

It’s always interesting,to me , to see various rulesets played  out like this .  I have these rules on my shelf , but have never used them .
