A little new ruined castle
« on: September 26, 2018, 07:36:02 AM »
Hello,

I was rereading the rules of "Relicblade" http://relicblade.com/about when I came across this drawing showing the setting up of the game.

This drawing reminded me the "ruined fieldstones tower" of Bruce Hirst. http://www.hirstarts.com/ruinfld/ruinfld.html

Since I did not have another project in progress, I decided to start building this land. Obviously, I made some quick sketches of how to place all the elements: the ruined tower or castle, a bridge, a ford and the river ...

I began by casting all the bricks needed for this project. Then, following Bruce's plans, I prepared the walls of the castle.
Here are some photos of the walls set up (not yet glued) on a start of rocks.

I then began the floor of the scenery (70x60 cm or 28"x24"). Foamcore and sand glued to give some relief.

A few pieces of cardboard glued to the sides of the foamcore to harden it and keep it flat.
Once all these elements are well bonded, a good layer of thick black acrylic paint to fix the sand even more firmly and prepare the floor paint.

Well, that's all for the moment ... The sequel to the next issue.

Jacques, happy builder !

Very ambitious! Looks great so far. The different ground levels provide a lot of interest.
Should make a great centrepiece for your gaming table!

That looks really really god. It kind of reminds me of the Maccloud tower in Highlander.

The small table size is one of the manny things I really like about Relicblade. You can do lots of small but interesting tables.

Hello,

Thank you for your kind answers...

After some brushing (I forgot to take pictures ...) I realized that I had forgotten the bridge.
No big deal, the foamcore is quickly cut and forgetfulness is repaired before the end of the painting.

I take this opportunity to seal the joints of the walls with plaster.

A last stroke of paint (black, beige, brown, green, brushing in ôcre and light gray) to integrate the bridge into the landscape ...

.. and we move on to the following story (if you like pictures!)

Ratnik and his three accomplices, On'Eye, Es'Kopet and Bustie, just arrive near the ruined tower (rumored to be haunted).

Our hunters of treasures... well.... of undeads are on guard, indeed, near the entrance of the tower, a sort of calvary, representing a skull, seems to have been worshiped a short time ago to judge the offerings on the ground.

"No ! We will not go back. Forward !"

This tower seems evil. It gives off an aura of terror. "Stand on your guard," whispers Ratnik, not reassured.

While Bustie watches the entrance, the others are scattered in the courtyard.

"Oh, a staircase seems to lead to the top of the tower."

Ratnik bravely climbs the stairs, watched by his companions.

On'Eye follows him and climbs shakily following the decrepit steps.

In the top room, a ladder seems to say, "Climb my friends, climb ..."

Ratnik rises to the top and contemplates the surrounding countryside. Everything seems strangely calm ... Even the river seems to flow without noise.

Redescendus, our friends go to the other entrance, the one that gives towards the river.

"Nothing to report either ... Cross the bridge."

Cautiously our four adventurers cross the bridge. Despite its dilapidation, it seems solidly built and the planks without problem carry the weight of the band of four.

"We'll go all the way to the ford," said Ratnik, watching the water flow gently under the bridge.

"This is the old caravans route, those who did not want to pay the bridge toll in the last century."

"Be careful, the stones are slippery, it's not time to take a bath."

"Nothing on that side either, I'm starting to think we've been deceived and there's nothing to see here ... Come on, let's go!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some last pictures to see the ruined tower on all four sides.

OK. That's all Folks. See you soon (I hope) for another setup.

Jacques
