Re: Brummies Sci Fi Thread: 15mm Sci Fi Frontier - A lone Veek Gunman
« Reply #76 on: January 19, 2020, 10:07:19 PM »
Taking a step back from Army building, here is my first entry into my 15mm Sci Fi RPG Wild Frontier project:

Kuee Qul a lone Veek Bounty Hunter.

The Veek were a nominally advanced race that lived well beyond the Human sphere. They originated from a binary system on an Earth sized planet called Kuo, which was in fact a moon of a large gas giant. The gas giants bulk protected Kuo from the brutal heat emanating from the systems two blue super energised stars. Sadly for the Veek their system was gravitationally unstable. One day Kuo and it's Gas Giant were flung into the depths of space, becoming a rogue planet. This event nigh wiped out almost all life on Kuo. Yet the Veek prevailed, seeking shelter near Kuos core. After a few centuries the Veek and their world were rescued by the highly advanced Ceph Empire. The Ceph though almost immediately enslaved the Veek, yet a few escaped and by luck found themselves on the edge of the Human sphere. It was during this exodus that Kuee Qul was hatched...

Thus like most Aliens on the Human Frontier, Kuee Qul is something of a Refugee. Having travelled with the remnants of free Veek society Kuee was only a hatchling when the Veek were granted refugee status by the UNSC and allowed to settle on the Federation frontier world of Alban VI. The Veek were settled in the isolated Durrar Canyons in the southern hemisphere of Alban VI, a place which closely resembled their home planet of Kuo. Here  Kuee grew up as a worker and rapidly learned the Veeks unparalleled capacity for subterranean construction and mining. However when her colony was visited by a human trading caravan, she was bitten by the travel "bug", a very unusual desire for a Veek. One spring morning Kuee Qul took up her Grandma's Beam rifle and went off into the vast wilderness beyond Durrar.

A few years later and even the frontier world's beyond Alban VI have heard the tales of an Insectoid Gunman, one such tale stands above others: of the time a raiding band of Cyber Vikings were laid low by a lone orange man ant defending a Gypsy caravan out near the Tulan mountains on Greer 2. The barbarians spoke in awe of how the creature weaved effortlessly between trees, blasting beams of light, pulping engraved armour and beast slave alike, likening it to the legendary weapon Gungnir...

Love the story, the miniature and the paintjob!

Makes me think that I should give that one a go. I do like colourful aliens, although most of mine get fairly boring colours...

Cheers all   :D

A slight return to Army building:

A Vornid Heavy Construct.

The Vornid way of war involves the Vornid invasion forces attempting to "seed" enemy world's. Much of the Vornids way of fighting is purely through attrition with invasive plant species slowly destroying or temporarily subduing the local flora and by extension causing the local animals (or human colonists) to starve. Raiding forces would keep the opposition off balance, unable to put the time and effort into "weeding" out the alien undergrowth. However although this method works well against undeveloped colonies the Vornid soon discovered humans and indeed a number of other Alien races were well equipped and able to deploy withering firepower and masses of machines and troops. Attacking an isolated world's ecosystem simply no longer worked, as the enemy could draw resources from offworld, often with entire fleets of immense cargo vessels at their disposal.

Thus the Vornid began growing large, powerful albeit utterly dim "Battle Weeds" as Commonwealth troops called them. These creatures are like Unmanned vehicles to the Vornid, controlled remotely by a Vornid rooted into a type of Plant based internet called the "Frond". These creatures are like tanks, capable of pulling apart Mechs, smashing Heavy Tanks and even striking low flying aircraft with elongated tendrils.

Re: Brummies Sci Fi Thread: 15mm Sci Fi - The Wasteland King
« Reply #86 on: January 21, 2020, 11:11:05 PM »
It's that time of day again!!

Enter the Wasteland King, also known as the Grey Varg.

The Wasteland King is a divisive figure; some see him as a hero, but many more see him as evil made manifest. Numerous tales of his exploits make the rounds on the irradiated world of Elysium, how this apparent nobody rose through the ranks of a band of Half mutated bandits to a Warlord who commands tens of thousands of warriors.

In fact so influential has Grey Varg become that despite being virtually imprisoned on Elysium, he is the target of numerous Verlassenian and Federation attempts to exterminate him. So fearful are the many nations in the Human Sphere of this man's ambitions that almost all of them have tried to kill him.

Elysium itself is the greatest tragedy of the Corporate Wars; once it was a garden world, replete with vast nature reserves teaming with Earth flora and fauna. The planet was also the key capital and weapons development centre for the Ardent Corporation. As Ardent were arguably the third most influential Corporation in existence, it made sense for the rebels to pour resources into its capture. Yet the Corporations nor Federation central command were willing to allow the secrets hidden in Elysium's vaults to be taken. What ensued was a five year campaign of global proportions that claimed billions of lives. Human soldiers, Cyborgs and Droids battled each other in Elysium's cities, legions of armoured vehicles tried to outmanoeuvre each other on Elysium's Northern plains and central deserts. Drone swarms clashed with each other or were obliterated by arrays of automated defense systems, manned and unmanned aerial machines fought for the skies and warships crumbled from orbit in the fierce clashes to claim orbital space for planet side bombardments.

It was in this bloodbath that Grey Varg was "made": a vat grown human. There was no warm embrace of a parent for him when he was thrust from the birthing pod after 15 years of gestation. He was instantly prepared for combat; his body teeming with the bionanites that enhance strength, agility, ward against disease, fight radiation poisoning and even heal minor injuries. However whilst almost all serving soldiers receive bionanites, Grey Vargs were in a class of their own, they were unique to him and would ensure he could live well beyond the natural cycle of any human without need for regenerative medicine.

Grey Varg saw it all, though will rarely recall it. He has survived grid killer artillery bombardments, watched soldiers mutate before his eyes after inhaling the deadly Theta 10 virus. He remembers the sewer war, the blinding dark and choking smell as he hunted down enemy infiltration teams during the 6 month siege of Vitelli. He witnessed the outbreak of the Z virus, when desperate refugees fleeing the flesh eating nanite swarms on the surface broke open Elysium's bioweapons bunker. Sadly the nanites didn't care for dead flesh and he spent weeks wasting away in a large ventilation shaft, fending for a gaggle of orphans whilst keeping the shambling horrors outside away.

In the end the rebels withdrew, the nanite swarm was the final straw, but in a final act of defiance that would taint their ultimate victory over the corporation's, they nuked Elysium's surface. In the end, all that remained of the Megacity of Vitelli was Grey Varg and hordes of the undead. Grey Varg has never forgotten that and never forgave.

Now the Wasteland King, Grey Varg has ambitions, he won't rest until all of Elysium is united for then he will have revenge on all the Human sphere.
