Pimping Sarissa's Far East huts
« on: October 08, 2018, 12:02:12 AM »
I needed some more village huts for the Chain of Command Malaya 1942 campaign and for some reason 20mm is poorly served in this respect. My only two huts were the original and venerable Airfix Jungle Outpost which are long out of production, so Sarissa have come to the rescue by releasing some of their 28mm Far East range in 20mm. I wanted to match the Airfix huts as closely as I could, so a bit of pimping and scratch building was called for. I've posted a step-by-step tutorial on my blog https://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/2018/10/sarissa-20mm-far-east-huts.html but here are some before and after pictures of one of them.

Love the new buildings.
Great match with your Airfix ones.

The textured A4 sheets of decorative paper, can you recall where they were from or the brand?
Cheers,

I bought them from an arts supply shop in Sydney called Eckerselys. They were on display with a large range of other types of paper, so I have no idea of the brand I'm afraid. I would suspect any good arts or crafts shop would have these. If you are in the US I would think Michaels or Hobby Lobby may have something close, if not the same. Making your own invitations for weddings etc is very popular and this sort of paper is often supplied for that, so even try a good stationery supplier.

Those have come out beautifully!

Textured paper aside, there are table place mats available giving a very similar surface.

@Poitier you might want to try Freedom and/or Ikea. I can't remember where I saw them last.

Beautiful work. They have come up a treat. Very effective use of materials and a wonderfully understated paint job.

Keep an eye out at home decorating places (such as B&Q in the UK)
for embossed wall-paper. I have used some of them to represent
wattle & daub walls.

Awesome stuff! MDF is a decent product but it really shines with a little TLC as you have shown.

That'äs a really nice improvement. MDF cutouts have their uses but often look a bit unorganic and clunky without some embelishments.

Great work! Wouldn't have even realized it was MDF at first glance.
