Painted Ogre Plastic Minis [Grey Ogres added]
« on: October 09, 2018, 10:47:16 PM »
Having acquired buckets of plastic Ogre miniatures through the recent Kickstarter projects, I've been gradually bringing the painting along in stages.

The first stage was just getting a speckled camouflage base cost on by spray painting with a variety of colours.  The minis are divided into 8 different forces, each with their own colour scheme.  Getting the spray camo on each force was sufficient to get them table-ready.

Then comes getting all the infantry ready and the detail painting done.  After detail painting, the final touch was to outline with a .005 Micron Art pen.  The force of Dark Green is the first to be completed.

Here is the whole batch, and Ogres Mk.III, Mk.IV, and Mk.V:

The infantry came with plastic tabs under the base of each figure that were designed to snap in/out of bases and the GEV-PC transports.  I opted to cut off the tabs, then drill the figure and glue in a 2mm x 1mm magnet in each one.  Made new bases with 3/4" fender washers and laser cut chipboard tops, and replaced the plastic floor of the GEV-PCs with a metal one.  I'll also be able to add trucks and hover trucks later for additional working transports.

This method is incredibly time-consuming, but will amortise well over continued game play.  I'm very happy with how this system works in action.  As for construction time, well, I have a complete collection of Godzilla movies that I haven't watched in awhile!

I've also added in some additional old Epic infantry for specialist types.  Eldar Wraithguard for Heavy Infantry, and Terminators for wet Marines.

The infantry caddy is a strip of 28 gauge steel that I cut and bent to shape, it drops into a double slot in the Plano box that holds the whole force.

The conventional forces:

Lovely stuff.

I'm sort-of glad they didn't ship top Australia otherwise I would have dropped a lot of cash on this KS.

Thanks!

Yeah, it's a shame SJG has had such trouble lining up worldwide shipping options.  They've finally arranged international shipping for the game mats that are add-ons with the current Ogrezine KS, but shipping the 2' long tubes is freaking expensive.

The Ogre Battle Box should be in the worldwide supply chain now, it's still a good deal for the full assortment of minis.

I foolishly had a budget crunch during the Minis 2 campaign and wasn't able to spend as much money as I would have liked.  In Minis 1, the Many Minis pledge provided 7 sets of everything; a healthy pile of plastic.  In Minis 2, the Many Minis pledge provided 1 more set from Minis 1 (8 total is a good number for running large multi-player convention games), but only 5 sets of Minis 2.  Championship level hot dogs & buns packaging, grrr!  Alackaday, I didn't have the funds at the time to go in for a double pledge.

I had a fortunate mispack on my Minis 2 shipment and received an extra sprue of the GEV-PCs.  And through trades and acquisitions have picked up an extra set and two-thirds of the conventional forces from Minis 2.  So I have a pretty good distribution of minis now for 8 forces.  Still hoping I can scrounge up one more sprue of 4 Mobile Howitzers to round things out.

Dark Blue infantry are ready for action.  'Specialist' troops filling in as usual for Heavy Infantry and Marines.  These marines bearing the shoulder flash of the elite Underwater Marines.

Things From The Basement made the laser-cut base-toppers I've been using, and they are up in the shop now for both Ogre and Epic style infantry.  They're great for either using with magnets, or just gluing infantry onto 3/4" inch fender washers and reducing the need for filler.  20 base toppers per sheet.  Will conveniently cover all the infantry in an Ogre Battle Box!

Thank you for the link, Cat.

Your troops look good - maybe I need to clear more space for my OGREs on the hobby desk    :)

Lovely textures with the speckled camouflage base coats on these little tanks. And good colour choices.

Lovely work on all of the forces, but I like the light green one the best for some reason.

I've never played Ogre, but have read up on the game and it sounds like fun.

And are those Epic Terminators in those forces?
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...
