Ravenna 1512 scenario for Fiasco 2018 (edit) game report
« on: October 12, 2018, 03:27:19 PM »
This year the Ilkley Lads will be putting on a Ravenna 1512 demo game at Fiasco at The Royal Armouries in Leeds. Sunday 28th October. Free entry.

I've just set up the game to check dimensions and the like. This is what I've come up with, figure scale 1:50. We will use our home grown version of Piquet to re-fight the battle. I thought a few shots of brightly painted troops would cheer you up, on what is a very dull and windy day (in UK).

So here's a link to more shots, including close ups - sun glasses on folks!

Fantastic layout and some wonderfully colourful troops.  I hope the show goes with a blast.

Great looking game set (as always).
Ravenna is an interesting battle to play through, are you scripting the game to reflect the actual battle or just using the initial deployments?

The deployments, once finalised, will be used on the day to fit, as best I can, the confused and contradictory narratives.

There will also be a couple of stratagems in the deck, for things like the arrival of the French flanking artillery across the Ronco (requiring a difficulty check).

I'm also going to put in one or two special rules to encourage French artillery fire over the earthwork at the Spanish cavalry standing further back - to spur it into action: 'Use it or lose it anyway'.

The victory conditions are straight forward. The French must take the earthworks, and rout the Holy League, or lose.

I've just started to do the scenario notes for the upcoming Ravenna 1512 game (at Fiasco 2018) on my blog. It's not the finished article yet, but I'm too busy to do the whole thing in draft (where it's hard to read through properly) and I'm lacking time at present, so it will be a bits and pieces at a time and edit post.

https://olicanalad.blogspot.com/2018/10/ravenna-1512-scenario-for-fiasco-2018.html

I've revised the starting deployments, because Taylor's don't make sense to me, and gone with Oman's (repeated by Sides) instead.

I've done the OOB for both sides but still have to do the brief historical background and scenario notes / special rules. I've also done the unit definition tables and a sheet of commander labels (with portraits where available) and posted them up too.

And a load more pics, which enlarge nicely on the blog!

Scenario finished. The initial deployment has now been sorted out, the OOB is done, the strategic background blurb is done, the special scenario notes are done, the list of sources has been added, done done, done.

More pics, and the whole blurb thing here:

I hope that it was worth it.

Looks fantastic. Fortunately I'm heading over to Fiasco this weekend, so look forward to seeing this in person.
