Fallout Farm ideas
« on: October 03, 2018, 06:15:41 AM »
Hey guys!

I'm currently working on some terrain pieces for a small rural themed 4x4 terrain board for This is not a test. This is to be used with a Fallout Canada themed campaign we are running at our LGS. We did a small Ontario themed campaign a year ago,  we are now playing a campaign set in Manitoba, hence the rural theme.

Unfortunately I'm at a bit of a loss for terrain pieces. I'm currently working on a few small Muitfruit groves but what else should I add? Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

I'm also open for ideas on plastic/ mdf terrain pieces.

Thanks in advance!

Andrew

Have you looked into the NCR farms in FO NV?

I guess how different the biome is really is a matter of howmyou envision post-fall Manitoba.

If you want to go really old school, here are some ideas from Fallout 2:

The Ghost Farm had corn and brahmin (and gory scarecrows).

The Bed and Breakfast in Modoc has a chicken coop ( ;)).

Farrel's garden (also in Modoc) has corn and cabbage (well, it looks like cabbage).

Sarissa makes a good derelict barn: https://www.sarissa-precision.com/Ghost_Town_Derelict_Barn/p1603368_17249996.aspx - the roof is detachable, so you can use the interior too.

A windmill/waterpump would be nice too: https://www.sarissa-precision.com/Wind_Water_Pump/p1603368_12087057.aspx

A tractor maybe? https://www.sarissa-precision.com/RAF_Tractor___Trailer_Set/p1603368_17860175.aspx

Small shacks or outhouses: https://ttcombat.com/collections/wild-west/products/shacks

One of these could work as the main house:

https://ttcombat.com/collections/city-scenics/products/grey-harbor-house-b
https://ttcombat.com/collections/city-scenics/products/grey-harbor-house-c

You can probably make most of the buildings yourself and the tractor, and other farm related machines, could be built out of plastic toys.

Animal enclosures/fences can be built from coffee stirrers either pilfered at the local coffee store or cheaply available on ebay, or you could buy a fence: https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_63&products_id=2558

Be sure to leave lots of crap all over the place as its the little details that really sell a terrain piece.
Dig out Wyrmallas old Fallout thread for inspiration.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!!

@Manchu- Yeah I've seen those,  they're alittle too prestine for my liking. I was thinking more farm ruins from pre fall or makeshift wasteland settlements.

@ Randall- Thanks for the heads up regarding Fallout 2, Fallout 3 was my first game of the franchise. I'll look more into it. Thanks!

@Munindk- Great stuff! Those are exactly what i was looking for! I might grab a couple buildings, or at least use them for scratch building resources. Thanks!

Check out some vintage steadings in photos.  Some coir mats would make for some decent fields.  Look for a massey ferguson tractor toy or diecast as a spot piece;  A vintage vibe and pure Canadiana.  I scratchbuiltbuilt this barn for TWD but old barn is pretty generic.

With Fallout 4's settlement mechanic, you can get several types of farm.  Melons, mutfruit, tatos...

I would just look around, and put together variants of what is already there.  Radmaples?  Mirelurk corrals?  Brahmin pens?

Remember, plants don't completely die off - FEV affected them too.
