Now all the infantry are done... for the time being...
Onto some support for my SS kameraden. They are going to be my real last ditch types, so will be in need of a bunch of tat!
First up is some heavy Anti Tank capability. I've already done a Pak40, so something else was needed, and an 88 seemed so passe...
So something beute it is... a Soviet 85mm AA gun. These were not that uncommon a sight in the West during late 44 and early 45, and many appeared in defences and emplacements. Having one in a more offensive role is a little more exotic, but not unheard of. Some may be aware of my penchant for the war in Holland and the Low Countries during this period and one of these guns was used, and still is, at Overloon. So it seemed to fit the bill of late war make-do perfectly.
Next is a little run about. No self respecting Waffen SS officer can be expected to walk to war, so all my German forces get a little car to drive around in. Again, I wanted something a little different... it was going to be a Tatra but in the end this Fiat looked too cute not to use...
Then we start moving on to some more heavy support... this time a Panzer IV Ausf. H with zimmerit. This will be a proper banged up old campaigner, and will at some point be joined by two new Ausf. J fresh from the factory. But this one will be a bit of a mobile scrapheap. So far been working on the hull...
I've tried alot of ways to do zimmerit, both miliput and green stuff and then resin and paper zimmerit sheets. But I have to say it's hard to beat the look of the brass etch. It takes a bit of work but I hope the result will be worth it.
I have just plopped the front hull panel in place for the photo as I cant fix it in place till the upper and lower hulls are joined once the tracks are done, but it gives a nice idea of what the hull will look like...
