Restart of a restart pumpkin project
« on: October 16, 2018, 11:47:25 PM »
My pumpkin patches have stalled out more than once due to my general lack of enthusiasm.  The lack of enthusiasm was not in the project itself as I really want the fields but in the repetitive process of punching out every leaf one at a time.  It did not help that I was using superglue to attach the leaves to the vines.  Needless to say it drove me scatty when the leaves glued to everything but the vine.
I started four years ago by using excess putty from other projects to make individual pumpkins of varying size and shape.  Once I had enough I made a mold and cast up about a hundred of them.  I ended up tossing the old attempts mostly out of frustration.  Then about two months ago a friend was raiding my bits box and found the bag of pumpkins.  He asked if he could have some so I gave him a batch and then decided that they needed using.  Here they are mounted with solder vines.

Here are a couple of shots with the leaves attached.

This time I am using gloss medium gel to attach the leaves and that has worked much better.  Once they are dry I will glaze all the paper with superglue prior to painting.    I have two bases completely done and I am about 3/4 done with the last.
Hope you like

Wow! That looks great!
Are those leaves from some paper-punching gadget? Can you link the source? They're a little on the large side, but I'm thinking I can really use that for my ongoing jungle project.

Sorry no link.  The small one (leaves about 5mm) was from the $1.00 bin in Michael's in the states.  The large one (leaves 20mm) was from hobbycraft.  If you are looking for punches then http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/101-punches) might help.
Thanks for the comps.

Slapped some paint on.
Base

Pumpkins

Vines

Next up is washes.  I may not finish this week as we are off overseas to the isle of wigit for the weekend. According to Metchecks Wigi Board it will be sunny till Monday so hopefully it will be nice.  My wife wants to take our daughter to Black Gang Chine and reminisce about her childhood.

This is the stuff of inspiration. The pumpkin patch bases look SPLENDID. You have some WONDERFULLY imaginative ideas, all carried out in an OUTSTANDING fashion. VERY WELL DONE!

Thanks for all the kind words.  Almost done.
Washed the pumpkins orange as I wanted the surfaces to appear blotchy and the vines and leaves were washed dark green.  Then added the brown edges on the leaves and a fleshwash to the leaves themselves.  I have another couple of things to do and then I will get some shots with some models for scale.  It always amazes me that when you look at photos of your own work you can see every little problem.

Hope you like

Another project that has been rattling around my head for years is finally finished.  Touched up a couple of spots and added tufts to the bases.  All I have to do is add felt to the bottom of each field.  The bases of the models are 25mm so that should give you an idea of scale.

Hope you like.
