Super Mission Force Titan Rules
« on: October 25, 2018, 03:01:47 PM »
So one thing we found with SuperSystem was that it didn't deal well with singular powerful characters versus a team due to the one character only getting a single combat action, they would just end up getting overwhelmed.

I saw there was an appendix with rules for "Titans" in Super Mission Force, with the main change being that these characters gain additional actions based on the number of opponents which seems to deal with the main issue from SuperSystem. We played a game of Thanos vs a few Avengers (with Kraven, I think my mate just really likes the character) with no particular scenario as I just wanted to see how it worked out. Thanos was a Brick/Blaster powerhouse with mostly defensive powers to simulate how tough he is (minus Infinity Gauntlet ofc :P). Without a scenario it obviously just descended into a ranged slugging match with Thanos taking down Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch and almost taking down Iron Man before being taken out. The balance was kinda hard to judge because I was rolling amazingly with Thanos (except my KO roll where I managed to roll all blanks on 6 dice).

I think maybe Titans should get some kind of health bonus as well based on the number of opponents, Thanos was specifically made really tanky and generally I guess powerful characters will be the kind who have superhuman resilience but I reckon if I hadn't rolled as well I did (and my opponents hadn't rolled so badly) he wouldn't have lasted nearly as long. Maybe with scenarios it's not as pronounced as there's other stuff to focus on?

With the extra actions it's described as they take actions after an opponent so they lose actions as enemies are KOd. The way we interpreted it was Thanos got his regular action plus an action after every 2nd opponent took an action so once the opponents dropped to three he lost an action.

Has anyone else tried out the Titan rules and have any thoughts on them?

Something like this:

-- Extra Health. You gain + 1 to Body and Psyche for every two foes you face. For example, three foes grants +1, four foes grants + 2, six foes grants +3, and so on.

What do folks think?
