workable tow hitch in 28mm
« on: October 25, 2018, 06:52:33 PM »
Hi there

has anyone got one of those nice simple "why didn't I think of that" solutions to a scratch built or re-purposed item for a workable tow hitch (hitch on and off 'able) that looks better than a bent paperclip but doesn't involve soldering, casting or sub-particle micro surgery?  I.E. I want to be able to stick something on the back of a vehicle so it can pull a trailer, field piece  etc.  It doesn't have to be a scale reproduction of the real thing, or particularly period specific just functional and reasonable robust in use. Cheers in advance, GDonk

You might consider sourcing some cheap toy that has this, and salvage it off of that? It's exactly the right time of the year to find discounted and very cheap toys, so I'd certainly try that route.

Any other methods I can come up with though would all involve some kind of scratchbuilding, glueing, cutting, soldering etc...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Cheers Daeothar - I had pretty much reached the same conclusion/solution.  All the best, GDonk

Look in the beading supplies at a craft store. You should be able to find small wire loops and connectors that would do what you need with some modification.

I immediately thought of magnets as well.
Or at least one.  A small rare earth magnet on the vehicle, then any item that needs to be towed just needs a metal ferrous piece on it.

I just use a hook and eye bent up from 1mm copper wire.
