Chechen War in 28mm Kickstarter by Tiny Terrain Models
« on: October 25, 2018, 10:16:44 PM »

Tiny Terrain Models launched their second Chechen Wars Kickstarter at the start of this month. With their first being rather wildly successful its something I immediately jumped on. To date they've raised £10,205 in pledges, and have nearly unlocked all of their stretch goals. We're in the last days now, so this is the last push to unlock the final stretch goals and knock this one out of the park like the first. :)

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1026360580/28mm-russian-and-chechen-miniatures/description

The miniatures are sculpted by Igor Karpov, who you may know from Lead Adventure Miniatures, Special Artizan Service Miniatures or Warhansa (and would fit in with those existing ranges, being more Eastern European figures). They represent both sides in the conflict, and feature tonnes of regular fighters with AK-74s, RPG-7s and now specialists with heavy weapons, guard dogs and more.

Russian Soldiers

Chechen Rebels

So far the following Stretch Goals have been unlocked too:

Stretch 1 - Open at £5000 (FREE to backers who pledge "All In") - Russian MG Support  #1 (UNLOCKED)

Stretch #2 - Open at £6000 (FREE to backers who pledge "All In") - Chechen Sniper Support  #1 (UNLOCKED)

Stretch #3 - Open at £7000 (FREE to backers who pledge "All In") - Russian Officer & Radio Operator (UNLOCKED)

Stretch #4 - Open at £8000 (FREE to backers who pledge "All In") - Chechen Sniper Support 2 (UNLOCKED)

Add on #5 - Open at £8500 - Russian Dog Team (UNLOCKED)

Stretch #6 - Open at £9000 (FREE to backers who pledge "All In") - Chechen Grenade Launcher Support (UNLOCKED)

Stretch #7- Open at £10,000 (FREE to backers who pledge "All In") - Russian Grenade Launcher Support (UNLOCKED)

And with more to come....

Stretch #8 - Open at £10,500 (FREE to backers who pledge “All in”) - Chechen reinforcements (LOCKED)

Stretch #9 - Open at £11,000 (FREE to backers who pledge “All in”) - Russian Reinforcements (LOCKED)

Post Kickstarter the company's expecting to produce a vehicle line as well, with a T-62 at first. So give them some love if you're into 28mm modern Wargaming (or even Post-Apocalyptic games if Metro and Stalker are your thing). :)

If you're into modern gaming at all I'd recommend also checking out Radio Dish Dash's Ultracombat rules and miniatures Kickstarter. Featuring both modern American and Russian forces, if you're looking for some figures to go along with these sets (and both the Russians and the Chechen models here would be more than suitable for games in the 21st century, albeit with maybe a few more red dots ;)).

Thanks for sharing.  :D
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

I mean we all know about it, but let's just make it official and act like I created this thread a month ago when the thing first went live. ;)

The final add-on have been announced. At £12,000 backers can add a set of Casualty markers for £8. Those who backed the original Kickstarter also get a set of these for free.

Add on #10 - Open at £12,000 - 6 Russian & Chechen Dead Markers (LOCKED) £8.00 Add on.

(personally I'd like to see a another set of 28mm Russian tank riders available other than those 4 sold by Empress. Soldiers sitting on top of tanks and APCs are a fairly iconic image. Perhaps in Kickstarter 3....)

I don’t post much on LAF, but when I do, it’s to agree with Wyrmalla! (Imagine a meme with The Most Interesting Man in the World’s picture, lol.)

+1 to Russian tank and APC riders, and I definitely recall that this thread started well over a month ago.

Just posting to give that a thumbs up. :D

Its now onto £11,142. I already have a tonne of dead WWII Soviet figures unpainted, and I'm now debating their potential to be converted into 90s Russians with the addition of a flak vest.

As with Igor's Eastern European civilian figures which he did for SASM, the context of they and some of these figures inclusion in games may be a bit unfortunate, but I'm debating picking some of these up for perhaps zombie games (where I already have 30 "dead" zombies, and they do make boards more interesting as either terrain, or "not quite dead" markers for those the Survivors take out).

I'll admit that when I saw the original Facebook post I had a look at what train tickets would be to make it down there, alas, that's good toy soldier money.  :'(

Its a nice board, and perhaps something that we all may want to think about when it comes to our own. Not just multiple floors to the house, but the whole board lifts up for sewer tunnels and basements (no more tanks just driving across flimsy floor boards without crashing through).  I can see it having some appeal to attendees, and I do like those apartments - I'll eventually get around to a pair myself sometime (I wonder how long the whole set took to put together).

Lord Raglan - Unfortunately I don't think Craig will be taking the game to Warfare.

By a nose, the last stretch goal's now been unlocked at £12,000. So that's a set of free casualties for those who backed the previous Kickstarter, or they can be added for £8 if you didn't or want some more. :)

Tiny Terrain's mentioned that post-Kickstarter we'll be seeing Tank Riders, Dismounted vehicle crews and more support weapons. So something to similar to Red Star's range for those who have been hankering for more variety when it comes to those figures (particularly the tank riders, where those same four sculpts make putting together a laden convoy require some creativity).

Hopefully there's some money in them investing into this range, and its the impetus for similar quality projects out of the company in future. Late 20th century Russians are ubiquitous in their equipment for many forces around that period up until the present (I mean I turned those VDV figures from the first Kickstarter into modern Cossacks), which is to say its appreciated that some of the more common facets are now being produced in this scale - still there's probably a fair few folks hoping for their own subject matter to be covered (where's my Peshmerga figures...? Oh, make some with Denel Inkunzi please! ;) ).

Anyhow, last 24 hours, back it now if you're wanting the stuff cheaper than retail, or hope that Igor doesn't sculpt a similar range in future that you'll be missing an extra squad of guys with AKs for. :P
