Afghan militia 1919 "uniform" colour.
« on: October 31, 2018, 07:00:22 PM »
Hi, just received some Empress Miniatures Afghan militia that I'd like to paint for use in the 3rd Afghan War. Can anybody give  a reference , description or colour plate showing the general colour ? I'm thinking an overall khaki effect, but any specific advice would be most helpful .

Hi dualer- hopefully someone who knows a lot about the period will come along with detail but, for what it’s worth, I’m painting my Militia the same way as you’ve described.

(Might be worth posting this on the Back of Beyond Board as there is quite a bit of 3rd Anglo Afghan War comment there).

Hi Dualer,

I'm very late with this reply, but hoping better late than never...

The definitive answer is YES -- Third Afghan War Afghan regulars, including "militia" wore khaki uniforms.

Here's a LINK to a post on the Afghan Regular Army of 1919, on Spanish wargamer Juan Mancheno's awesome but (sadly) long inactive blog dedicated to his 1919 Waziristan Campaign project:

https://waziristanonafancy.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-afghan-regular-army.html

If you look around on that blog you will find many other interesting and useful posts pertaining to gaming the Third Afghan War and Waziristan Campaign, including use of tanks and aircraft.
