Here's my spiel as the author of Fistful of Lead-ness:
I painted up a knightly retinue and hopped on plane and flew 10-ish hours from the Midwest US, to London, to play in Steve's game.
I was not disappointed.
His mods were great and had a period feel. Based on my (mostly crap) cards I had to make some real decisions on what to do next. There were some moments when my heart was racing a bit as I plotted my next move, usually on who's back to bury my axe in.
Galactic Heroes isn't really meant to be a close combat game. It works pretty good at it, with lots of back and forth, but not what's its made for. At it's heart, its a SciFi game.
Just like Fistful of Lead is Cowboy game and Horse and Musket is a Black Powder skirmish game.
Steve has done a really, really great job at adapting the rules for the period. He sent me the mods and they'll be a huge help for the Fantasy/Medieval supplement. It has a very RPG feel to it.
All that being said, this scale isn't for everyone. I get it. But it is a great scale to play while building up for those mega-battles (which I play alot of). It takes time to paint the hundreds of minis needed to play even a skirmish game sometimes. Why not have some fun with smaller forces while your toiling away.

Glad you enjoyed it Jaye. Your Knight and his Retinue are certainly well travelled. :D

  :)

Well, the bigger test game in the offing for last week eluded me, as I found myself relatively housebound and so with much time to fill I started on the castle.

It’s based on Dunstaffnage, near Oban, which was built from 1220. When visiting it in September i quickly realised  that it would provide the basis for my ‘wargaming’ castle.  Progress this week:

Next steps will be laying out the various internal buildings and thickening the curtain walls.
