Making split rail fences
« on: November 02, 2018, 01:00:17 AM »
A new project normally calls for new terrain and the one thing missing from my terrain mix for my recent American War of Independence project is the very ubiquitous split rail fencing. Generally you need a fair bit of this and so it seemed most economical to make my own. I've put together a tutorial on how I made these and you can see it here https://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/2018/11/making-split-rail-fences.html

Nice work.

I made a lot of split rail fencing using basswood strip and put together a simple jig to make sure I kept the right angles.

I also added half rails at each end so they would "join" without having 2 posts against each other.

Someone's been busy! Split rails, that's an american thing, isn't it`? I don't think I have ever seen it at the respectable end of the pond.  ;)
