Thanks - I’m definitely going to get some more of the Westwind heads, there is plenty of variety - I’m using the more scruffy bearded ones at the moment for the northerners, but they also have some clean shaven ones that will get used for the softy southerners

Good plan! Though, have you got some of the shaved heads? Wonder how well they'd work for like, some of the "green boys" that get drafted into the northern armies after the Red Wedding.

Also silly question but have you seen the Fireforge Scandinavians? The bodies there look pretty generous with the chainmail, with some headswaps I'm thinking they could make some good Northmen (or Ironmen), but I've not seen them up close!

I haven’t seen the shaved heads...must go and investigate - thanks!

I have had a look at the FF Scandinavians but not gone as far as buying some - went for the Byzantines initially as the helmets work well for the Unsullied, and they have some decent armour as well.

Personally I’m not so sure about too much chain mail for the North - leather/padded gambesons or jerkins are not only cheaper,  but also more practical in colder climes.

Still pondering the Ironborn...again I’d like something that doesn’t just end up looking like a bunch of Vikings.

This weekend’s update:

I’ve been steadily adding some more Karstarks to the putty/paint queue, and while I wait to get some “critical mass” I’ve finished some more Lannisters.

In retrospect I’ve probably got “enough” Lannister’s, because now I need to build/paint a whole load of northerners, otherwise any battle is going to be a tad one sided....and that’s without the Lannister retainers - House Prester, Lefford, Sarsfield and the sellswords.

A couple more bases of knights, plus some spear (an excuse to have some shields) plus some flags.

Group shop of the Lannister foot..have got some cavalry, but again I reckon I need more.

Have you looked at Victrix  Gallic Warriors, the poses are dynamic, lots of cloaks and some nice heads, the shields may be a bit "off," but they suggest the look of Sea Reavers to me,just a thought :)
Great project by the way :)
Cheers

Actually you don’t need to paint an equal amount of northerners to balance out the Lannisters. You just need to paint one dragon and you are sorted. :D

Thanks everyone for the kind words, can’t remember the last time I was so motivated to churn out figures, so enjoying it while it lasts!

I hadn’t seen them, but will add them into the mix - tbh, while I will get around to Ironborn at some point, there are plenty of other Houses in my todo list, so I can afford to ponder them for a bit longer.

 lol

True, but I haven’t found a dragon that suits the look yet.

I will add some Scorpions to the list though, just in case I come against an opponent that has a dragon or three....

 :D

Next up will be some reinforcements for House Stark, and some scruffy Karstarks.

Brief update, as I had limited time this week, due to work etc

A few additions to House Stark

18 of the 24 were painted by Romark (Perry HYW) I have merely tweaked them to fit my project, painted the leggings grey, added some green stuff Wolf Shields and then rebased. While I was waiting for these I added another half dozen from scratch (Perry War of the Roses - top right in this photo) and I think they blend together pretty well?

I’ve got some more of Romark’s HYW which I think will end up being repurposed (again with some minor repainting) as House Frey....boo hiss...

I’ve now got 24 Karstarks assembled and undercoated and in the paint queue plus a bewildering array of other “stuff” in various states of assembly...I fear this project is spiralling out of control...ok, what was my first clue?

 lol

Agreed! Nice job!

Also, is that chap in the back-right of the formation one of the Westwood heads?
