The Eagle has landed!
« on: December 29, 2018, 03:09:33 PM »
This years Christmas game and one of my absolute warmovie favourites. The board includes the Watermill, the Inn, the Church and the Manor, (where it all ends)

Following the movie storyline the game starts when the Germans are revealed due to the drowning accident with the little girl at the Watermill:

The Germans (dressed as Polish Paratroopers) take the village inhabitants as hostages and bring the into the Church, after a little row between Colonel Steiner and Father Verecker:

We included the characters Joanna Grey, Liam Devlin and Molly Prior in the game supporting the Germans:

The game continued with the ( not so successful) arrival of Colonel Clarence Pitts and his small force:

But once the Americans arrived in force things got troublesome for the Germans:

To even out the odds a bit we let the crew of the E-Boot join the fight:

Arthur Seymoor joined the fight with his black eye but got shot...

Once the fight was over Churchill arrived at the manorhouse guarded by military police:

Just like in the movie Col Steiner managed with his mission but in this version he survived and managed to escape to the E-Boot

Now its time to start working on the Easter Game!  :)

This looks great and I spotted a very splendid (sadly no longer available) Inn amongst the buildings ;)

Amazing!
The pics of the US soldiers hidding behinds tombstones just seems to be taken from the movie ( ok I'm over-reacting a bit, but you've got the idea )
Nice set up and figs, must have been a cracking hell of a game !
Cheers,
Fred

I can’t take any credit - I was only a player. The credit goes to Mad Lord Snapcase who designed, assembled, wrote and ran the whole thing at his magnificent Devon mansion. I’m sure he’ll be dropping by here soon to admire your splendid game.

Indeed I will and it is a splendid looking game and report. It was the Water Mill which started me off, the same one you have. When I was painting it I kept thinking about that scene in the film and my game just developed from there.

Great work!   :-*

I have to admit it was the watermill that got me going as well  ;)

It is interesting to see that the watermill from Mapledurham is used in several movies. The latest I saw was the march to Waterloo in the ”Vanity Fair” series.

Just watched the film on telly and realised I’d never actually seen it before so that was another treat to add to this topic....😀
