KT's workbench (assortment, fantasy, historical, sci-fi)
« on: November 18, 2018, 03:05:44 PM »
Hi All,

Long-time lurker, but I figured I would start posting since I've loved reading everyone else's threads.

About me: Two small kids and work a crazy job so I don't have much free time. Started getting into the hobby in the 90's but dropped out three times.
This included me selling a whack of stuff in the early 2000's. I have slowly reaccumulated it all (and more) over time.
This is my attempt at making way on the grey and silver (all the unpainted minis).

My workspace is below as is what I am working on.

I love the old school Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40K starter sets. I will be working through them over time, and will hopefully see an increase in my painting skill.

That's a chunk of work. It'll be interesting to watch your progress.
How do you intend on structuring your work load? Even painting as fast as I do I make that well over three hundred hours worth of work.

Mark.

Hi Mark,

I'm hoping this plog will keep me focused. I would agree with your assessment in terms of time.
Having my own space setup is a huge time saver. No time spent finding things and then putting them away.
A wet palette is another great tool, I can leave my paint out for a bit and not worry about it drying up.

Here are some of the minis I am working on from the Black Reach starter and the 2000 Orcs vs. Empire starter.

Had a spurt of hobby mojo this afternoon and washed the sprues for the 2nd and 3rd edition WH40k starter sets.

They are drying now, hope to start clipping them later tonight.

It's all about getting those minutes here and there to push forward against the army of grey.

Years ago I got this lot on Ebay. I put them in the Simple Green dip, and cleaned up mouldlines as best I could.

I then based them and primed them.

I am waiting for an order to arrive from Secret Weapon for their washes and acrylics.
I am looking forward to having fun painting them using only washes.

These will be just for fun so open to any advice/suggestions!

I managed to start gluing together some space marine scouts and some assault marines, but most importantly laid down the base skin color for the Zombies!

My first time painting Zombies, so open any comments/criticisms!

Following! I played a LOT of 40K in the early 90s, took a break for a couple years, played a bit in the late 90s/early 2000... sold almost all of my massive armies (assuming I'd stay away)... only to jump back in ca. 2010. It's been crazy.

I just separated out a group of Sisters of Battle with the intention of re-creating a 2nd edition army I had.

Curious to see what you make of your project!

a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

@ Dr Mathias Awesome, it's fun because I get to use newer techniques on older minis, so I feel I can paint them to a great standard. Almost as if I am walking through time... :)
@ tomrommel1 Thanks, hopefully it will help to keep me on track!

Update time: More assembly has been done

Hi Mark,

Coloring in as requested!

I used Vallejo Game Color Inks for the Zombies.
The purple in particular for the shirt is quite saturated so I am at a loss for how to proceed.
Shade with dark blue then highlight?

Pretty happy with everything else. Skin was VGC Rotting Flesh, then washed with Secret Weapon Miniatures "Baby Poop' wash.
