Use a stiff brush and wipe it on a rag or napkin until only a little paint is left, like the drybrushing technique but it may be a little bit more. Then just push the brush against the model with the tip so the pain is applied in tiny dots. The technique is basically the same as for MARPAT and UCP camouflage.

He'll need proper paint codes. Unfortunately, I don't have a colour chart handy, Erik, but if you'll wait until tonight I'll look up equivalents in the VMC range.

That seems to be spot on. One thing, though, isn't the 169 a semi-gloss tone, or am I mistaken?
I would really enjoy a whole squad (or platoon!) of those Bundeswehr marines, especially a few more regular riflemen with those G36s.
