Perilous Island Mini Recommendations Please
« on: November 24, 2018, 02:47:08 PM »
I just picked up the Perilous Island campaign for Pulp Alley. There are a few instances that call for various types of minis. The Pulp Alley miniatures are slightly smaller than the normal scale I am used to using.

Does anyone have a recommendation on where I can find some fairly cheap zombies that will match the scale of the Pulp Alley, Reaper, or Crooked Dice miniatures scale?

Does anyone have a recommendation for some natives other than the Reaper Zulu miniatures?

I am in the United States so I would prefer options in the U.S. to save on shipping. If the miniatures are going to be metal, I would prefer that they have the tab rather than the sculpted/included bases. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

I have zome zombiesmith aliens and they fit fine with other 28mm, so their zombies should work - https://www.zombiesmith.com/collections/zombies-by-the-slice/. Cheapish, rather than cheap, as they're not in bulk

zombicide boxed sets are available separately - https://zombicide.com/en/additional-sets/, although I don't see any prices against them

If you can get mantic in the US, they have zombies in their Kings of War range - http://www.manticgames.com/mantic-shop/kings-of-war/undead/product/undead-zombie-swarm-40-figures.html

Not sure about natives, but you may find something in the Darkest Africa board

Good luck

Regarding native minis, I am not sure if they match the Pulp Alley figures exactly, but there is Warlord Games Unmarried Zulu Impi:

The Perrys also have plastic Zulus, which you could find in the US I am certain:

Even better is Savage Core's Jaguar Tribe (where they could be bought in the US I have no idea):

I recommend the older Mantic Games Zombie Horde for Kings of War (NOT their Plague Zombies). It comes with about 40 plastic zombies. Looks like they are also available in the US through Amazon.

I also really like Mantic's Ghoul Regiment (20 plastic models). I frequently use these for Zombies as well.

We mainly use the natives (Ngoni Warriors) by Copplestone Castings.

I agree with Mr Phipps. Mantic zombies or ghouls. Or a mix of both if you can.

I found some cheap at a trade fair. I am still painting them and I could switch the body parts around with very little effort or filling. I swapped Ghoul legs with zombie torso's for more variety.

Here are some of the Ghouls I already had. I still managed a good variety of poses from just a normal box of Ghouls.

Even a few sprues of each can net you a good skirmish amount. I do like lots though!  lol

How are they scale wise?

I compared my Zombicide minis that were recommended in another post. They are a bit too big for my tastes when compared with the Pulp Alley, Crooked Dice, and Reaper minis.

I do like those Warlord Zulu minis and they can be purchased by the sprue or by the box. It would be a lot cheaper than buying tons of the Reaper Zulus at $12 for three. I also know that my local store can order them as they carry Bolt Action. LOL

Well. I think Mantic are on the small side of 28mm. They seem to fit really well with my Copplestone and even Heroclix (At least some of the Heroclix!)

On average they are the same size as Crooked Dice, Old Glory, Copplestone, Reaper. Or at the very least very compatible.

The emaciated look of the zombies and ghouls and the possible poses you can get by adjusting the fit of torso to legs also allows you to control size.

I haven't seen the Zombicide minis myself in the plastic so to speak. I just think Mantic are very generic in possibilities and I will use them in many different genres.

I'll try to post a size comparison Pic here if that is OK?

If you want some non-African natives, Copplestone has Amazonian natives and Pulp Figures has Melanesians:

PULP FIGURES! I'm with joekano on this. Bob Murch's Savage Seas line has great minis to use as natives in the South Pacific or Indian Ocean, the supposed location of Perilous Island. Also, if you'd rather buy minis than pay for shipping, ordering 8 packs from Pulp Figures gets you free shipping in Canada or the USA. And ordering 5 packs gets you a 6th pack free.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I think I am going to go with the Zulu plastic figures from Warlord. The price is very reasonable and should allow me to have more than enough natives to use.

Victory Force is another good source of bulk cheap zombies that will scale with what you are using.

OR......

Set it someplace else. I used a lost oasis full of ancient egyptians, skeletal warriors, Wargods of Aegyptus figures, Egyptian style aquarium fixtures and so forth. Why? Because that's what me and the guy I was playing against had.
