He's ace, I can easily see him in a SW game as a bounty hunter or gang enforcer. ;D

Outland: A Sci-Fi Civilian/scenery Project. (Back to the Rooftops) 24/03)
« Reply #170 on: March 24, 2020, 10:39:27 AM »
Blimey!
It is over a year since I made these rooftops....
 :o :o

As threatened earlier, here is the start of the buildings, working from the top down.....

I am starting with the rooftops for several reasons...

Firstly, these are the most commonly seen parts of a building whilst playing a game, so I wanted to try and make them as 'interesting' as possible so I will be utilising a whole bunch of stuff to detail them.

The main area is covered by using the 'sides' of the GW Containers as I have a few of these donated to the cause by Legionnaire Bert (and have since ordered a few more when I can find them at a good price, so if anyone reading this has any still on sprue that they are willing to part with at a sensible price please give me a shout  :D) as they cover a large area and will help create a 'standard' look whilst the other, smaller detail will help differentiate them.

Other parts include the GW pipes (which will be more extensively utilised later) and various other resin 'bits' from the bits box from Ainsty, OSHIRO and other unknown sources.
I have a fair stash of these so I can do quite a few rooftops this way.

The whole thing has been finished in a kind of tarnished bronze effect using the GW technical paint (but not in the ridiculously wasteful way that they recommend, by the way!) on top of a standard bronze coat underneath.

I have a few more roofs to do before moving on to the rest of the buildings, including a very useful source of 'parts' which will be covered later when they have been finished.
 ;)

....and now I have finally started on some buildings for them to go on.
Better late than never, I suppose.
 ::)

Pics of the WIP later.
 ;)

Cheers, mate.

The first stage of the build, nothing exciting, just a box made out of foam sections affixed to an MDF baseboard.
Glued and strengthened with bamboo kebab skewers.

The roof sections have also had a few bits of foam and MDF added to hold them securely in place.
Those cavities will be utilised later with scenery made to fit in there for storage and continuing the 'Russian Doll' theme of storing scenery within scenery that began with the 'tin' buildings made earlier.
 ;)

Here they are at the moment with the rooftops in situ...

Time to get on with the pimping.....

It love seeing new and innovative ways to use parts. The containers-as-roofs idea is genius - it looks very convincing, with a nice compromise between detail and playability. Very much looking forward to seeing the buildings progress.

OK, the pimping is done, mostly using shims (the black plastic wotsits) and MDF offcuts and leftover bits.
There are two plastic parts from dismantled SW toys and also a couple of resin bits, along with a few bits of junk all of which were dragged out of my 'sci-fi' bits box.

A little bit of tidying up and I can start colouring it in.
