Skirmishing in a crusader keep
« on: December 23, 2018, 01:49:37 PM »
Over at the Gaming a Crusader Castle project (https://crusadercastle.wordpress.com/) we've been working on a skirmish game, using Osprey's Outremer rules. We wanted something that would produce scenarios we could play inside the castle model itself. You can see the castle here:

So we've been tinkering with some forces for a skirmish. We're currently planning a four-hander game with two Christian and two Muslim factions, variously trying to hold onto or rescue a captive, with some side objectives in the form of treasure. Here are some shots from our playtests! We haven't quite done all the models yet, so there are some substitutions, but hopefully you can get the idea.

Again, some of our treasure chests are currently reused from Frostgrave:

And some images from our more outdoor-focused Outremer playtest:

I’m intrigued by how you’ve dealt with minis on stairs. I have a castle skirmish on the go and would very much like to enable stair climbing....  I was considering blocks to make a platform, which it looks like you’ve done.

Anyways, great project  8)

I truly like the interiors.

We need more skirmish fightings inside buildings, it's so funny.  :)

I don't know if you are into Hirst Arts, but they have a few staircases, including spirals.

On at least one of the HA tutorials there was a suggestion for staircase "stands". In the HA case you simply use a spare staircase block stood upside down and pop a figure on it. With HA all stairs are standardised because they are castings. This looks similar. Provided all your stairs are the same size it shouldn't be too bad.

Most interesting. I have plans for the Outremer rules, so I'll avidly read your thoughts on this. I'm heading to the blog :)
