I meant to ask, are you not keeping the tree hollow? I’ve just realised in your first picture you got a bit of card stuck in there and I’ve now covered it in tissue. What’s taken the chunk out of the tree then? Blaster fire? ATAT crashing in to it? Rancor bite?

My idea was to create some height for figures, also didn't want to loose figures in a hollow tree
For the roots I was thinking of using some tin foil coated the same as the rest of the tree, I was going to use rubberised horse hair for the roots

Horse hair is a good idea  8)

Some brown sponge flock soaked in glue for the soil perhaps?
cheers

I really like that Colin. James' sponge idea is definitely worth trying.

Started with the roots

Going to fill out the bits between the big roots with rubberised horse hair

That will be a nice big table filler. The dirt effect on torn up root area is looking pretty believable.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Just the kind of custom work I was hoping for when we set the theme.  :)
