BSC2019 Beefcake's Secrets of the Dark Underground

I'll probably do some 3d sculpting for this one. Probably some sort of Fungus grove along with some carnivorous plants.

Sounds cool.

Could you make subject title conform to standard? It makes it easier for me to weed out posts not relevant to the BSC.

So as per last year I'll be doing a digital sculpt. I'll end up adding this to my DriveThruRPG page for sales.
Here are the first pictures.
Basically what I did here is create a cylinder, subdivide the length of it and then scale the different sections out. Then I rotated each part of it to make it not straight up and down. After that I added a surface subdivision modifier to smooth it out. This is the basic stem of the first mushroom/Toadstool. I'll add more stuff like lumps etc to it so it is not so uniform. I'll also make the top part to it as well.
I plan on making a few of these of multiple varieties followed by perhaps a carnivorous mushroom with teeth, maybe even some mushroom people as well.

Top of the Mushroom
First I created a cylinder.
I subdivided the height of it.
I pulled in the subdivisions to make the cone of the top and created a smoothing modifier (subsurface division modifier)
I then made 2 similar circles underneath and pushed up every second line to create the underside of the mushroom.
More work still to do on this.
Moving along nice and quick. I'd better fix my printer!

Looking very good. Maybe squish it a bit so it isn't a perfect circle (remember these are organic things)?

And what's the planned diameter of these?

Good idea.
No idea at the moment how big I'll make them, this will be a tall one so I'm thinking maybe 10cm, smaller ones between 4-7 cms.

Here's a second one. Very squished this time. I followed the exact same process only different dimensions.

Great start! 8) It's always nice to see these 3D renders brought to life!

I really don't think this is going to print well unless I manage to get an SLA printer before the deadline so I doubt I will actually get this one printed but this is Audrey 2. The carniverous plantlife. She's a bad mother father.

Looks promising  :)

Could you split the ‘mouth’ into four to make it easier to print?
cheers

Possibly. It's all the little teeth I'm worried about though.

Well I had decided to pull out of this but then had a change of heart and just got stuck in instead of playing video games tonight.
Anyway, I made a base for these to be put on and I worked on a couple of quick rock formations. One not shown.
One I have covered in Fungi to stick with the theme. The other probably will too. The main base will be about 15cm across and each element will have a base of 4cm. I'm hoping I can also use this as a scenic base for monsters as well. I might make a few of these later and make them look a lot fancier and rockier. I may resculpt the base piece entirely. I was trying out some new sculpting techniques, which I guess is what this competition is all about.

Oh and the fungus is a modified version of the mushroom top. I only did one but rotated it around for each one so it shouldn't look too duplicated.
The three pieces above the base are what I used with a boolean modifier to essentially carve out the shape of those cylinders.
