BSC2019 Snitchythedog Hydroponic Grow

Since I have never seen anyone else build a grow I decided to give it a try.  My plan is to do the build in sections.  Plants, trays, racks, lighting and support machinery.

So I am starting out with the repetitive portion of the build.  Each plant in the growing trays will be made of a blob of Fantastic Elastic glue covered with paper punched leaves.  This is first temporarily mounted on a piece of excess plastic packaging so the glue can be removed later.  To make the leaves I painted a sheet of normal notebook paper with acrylics deliberately keeping the coverage blotchy to add some variation.  I will also highlight the leaves once the glue sets.  I figure I will need this amount again. So I have to do some more of these.

That’s a good use of materials - Fantastic Elastic has interesting properties but I’ve only ever used it around the house.

It is a tacky gell.  I usually use it to anchor my taller grasses in corners.  See the image here.

I have several.  They can be useful but like everything else they cannot be used on their own.  Tip when looking for them.  Checkout crafting stores scrap booking sections.  Both Michael's in states and Hobby craft over here carry them there.  In many cases there are small punches in the dollar or pound bins fit the bill.

I have completed the trays.  Basically a piece of zip tie sheeted in card.  Then I added some gubbins on the sides for detail.  As most of the tray will not be readily visible I did not do more than that.  Here are the trays prior to painting. 

Once primed they were mated up with the plants.

The use of Zip-ties is inspired. I already used then for baffled vents and such, but this works just as well!

Those punches have always been on my wants list; maybe they've just moved up a few places.

One question though; wouldn't using green paper for the leaves be a better idea? Considering the painted green white paper results in a visible white edge on each leaf?

Then; as I was typing that, I just figured that using a bright green paper, painted a darker green would give you instant highlights in an appropriate colour! Also; those leaf-punches just leapt up some more places on my wants list now...
