(AP 2019) Thargor's 28mm World War II
« on: January 04, 2019, 07:49:35 PM »
This year I will mainly be working on my figures for Bolt Action.  The plan is for a Panzergrenadier army and a Fallschirmjager army.  If I have the time I will also be working on a British Airborne force.

I also have tanks for both sides that need painting, they will double up for What a Tanker.

*edit*
In order to ensure my progress I have decided to put a schedule in here:

Feb - Squad of 10 Panzergrenadiers and a Hanomag
Mar - Squad of 10 Panzergrenadiers and a Hanomag
Apr - Squad of 10 Panzergrenadiers and a Hanomag
May - Command figures and support weapons and vehicles
Jun - Axis Tanks - 2x Stug III,  Tiger and a Panther.

Jul - Squad of 10 Fallschirmjaeger
Aug - Squad of 10 Fallschirmjaeger
Sep - Squad of 10 Fallschirmjaeger
Oct - Command figures and support weapons

Curious as to why you chose Bolt Action over say 'Chain of Command' given you're already using some of the same core mechanics in 'What a Tanker' ?

This year will be my year for 1940 French, 1940 German, British Airborne, 1941 Soviets, and possibly Fallschirmjager (I have a few already, and I am pretty sure there are more lurking around somewhere.)

Plus tanks and supports of course.
Wargaming since the dark ages...

I already play Bolt Action and have British Infantry and German Heer armies.  What a Tanker is a new purchase that hasn't arrived yet.

Thargor,

I use Vallejo almost exclusively. I'll need to look at the bottles to get exact names and numbers for you. I'm at work right now, but I can get info and get it to you in the morning. I used the Artizan here: https://www.artizandesigns.com/painting-guides.php written by Mick Farnsworth. (He has a new book out on painting WW2 Germans btw). I found them to be very helpful.

@Borderguy190 - Thanks for that link...just what I needed.  A great resource, especially as I mainly use Vallejo paints and have ready access to them in my FLGS.

So far I have put together 10 Panzergrenadiers and primed them and a Hanomag on the sprues.  Our club is about to start another Frostgrave campaign, so I have decided on a warband and today built them using the Cultists box of plastics.  We were randomly selecting our wizard this time and my old warband just didn't fit with a necromancer.

They have moved to the top of my painting list in order to be ready for the first game.  Building the Hanomag will be next, then painting the squad to jump in and out of it and then the painting the half-track.

End of month 1 progress report...

10 Panzergrenadiers complete.  This squad is armed with Assault Rifles and LMgs, so I tried to pose the models as dynamically as I could.  The hanomag still needs decals and a wash or 2.  grass flock will be added once the army is complete to ensure that it matches across all units.

Looking good. Just a couple comments (and sorry I never got back to you on painting). I would try not drybrushing metal. It just looks kinda chalky. Paint metallic over a base of black, and use a dark wash (Army Painter dark tone or Nuln Oil) for shading. Also, keeping basing material off boots makes the whole model look better.

Otherwise, you have done a great job. The Hanomag looks gritty and used. Perfect. The camo is really nice. I struggle with camo on vehicles and uniforms. And I cant believe you painted rank on. I used tiny decals you can barely see. well done!

Bit late posting...but they were completed in April, on schedule...the third squad of Panzergrenadiers and their transport.  This time they are mainly carrying rifles.

Thanks.  Command and Support elements to add now... Commander and MMG team with a transport, Artillery Observer with a Kubelwagen and a Sniper Team and I've got a Medic too, so will paint him, although not sure if I'll use him on the table.
