1/300 6mm WWII games
« on: January 07, 2019, 09:22:43 AM »
I have started with cruel seas and rather like it . I know of all the shortcomings, but it is a nice set of rules.

I would like to do some landing scenarios and therefore need WWII rules recommendations for 6mm figures.
I would prefer rules were the smallest unit size would be a squad. So 5-6 Miniatures to a base.

Which figure and vehicle range would you recommend for 6 mm ?

In hoc signo vinces

Have a look at www.wargamesgazette.com

I Ain't Been Shot Mum by Too Fat Lardies. In 6mm it is pretty much true-scale. One figure is one man etc. Would be ideal to accompany Cruel Seas I think!

Scotia Grendel have a catalogue of the weirdest most obscure landing craft, river boats etc you could want. Nice quality and worth a look to see if they've got what you're after.

For mini's I'd suggest Adler: http://home.clara.net/adlermin/page5.html

For vehicles GHQ; http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/military-models-world-war-ii-micro-armour.html
or CinC: http://www.pfc-cinc.com/page/page/295095.htm

For landing craft and gliders Amphibmods, probably the best value for money in 6mil, I have a pile of their gliders, fraction of the price of the GHQ ones and every bit as good.; http://www.amphibmods.com/?product_cat=landing-craft

For the widest selection of bunkers: http://legionsivhire.ca/index.php?id_category=13&controller=category

Buildings: http://www.levenminiatures.co.uk/ and free buildings to print out and make: http://www.ghqmodels.com/pages/military/freestuff.asp

These are all my personal faves, all are great models, good quality casts and typically the best available. Cheaper options exist for some, like GHQ. Timecast used to be the gold standard for buildings but their quality has fallen rather low recently, best avoided for now I think.

Ditto that, I just bought an AA and a couple of tanker Landing Craft, and they're nice little boats. Good service too.

Has anyone tried the WWII Micro Squad rules from GHQ?

Heroics/Ros and Scotia.  Both ranges work together really well (You will want their Artillery Crew figures for the Warlord boats anyway).
As for rules, the Battlegroup series work brilliantly in 6mm with squad bases rather than single figures.

I'm a big fan of Battlegroup. Love the system, it creates interesting games every time out. I use it for armour only 6mm games but I don't see why infantry couldn't be added.

For miniatures, GHQ are by far the best tanks out there. The detail on GHQ tanks is absolutely astonishing! Infantry wise, Baccus is my usual go to. Given, I don't have any of their 6mm WW2 stuff yet, I have 1000s of ancients and some ww1 stuff and the models are lovely! Baccus is coming out with tanks now as well, I haven't purchased any as of yet.
