Wargames illustrated Freebies updated 30th Jan
« on: January 22, 2019, 08:30:52 PM »
Just received my copy of WI today and was very excited to see it came with a frame of free figures. They were the not yet released Commonwealth Figures from Warlord Games. It is basically the 8th Army frame with different heads. There may be some other different parts. I haven’t analysed it too closely yet. Anyway here are some pictures of the frame.
They are now assembled and painted. I really like them, especially as they were free.

That's interesting.

I have some of the 8th Army with a plan to do SAS / LRDG.  Those heads offer even more variation.

Of course, I have the Perry 8th Army.  I wonder if the head sizes are a match?   ::)

Definitely not, Malcolm. The diminutive ‘true 1/56 scale’ Perry figures are smaller all round than the Warlord ones, which are big chunky traditional 28mm figures... stylistically and stature-wise, incompatible.

I have to agree.

Admittedly the Warlord one is a metal (and I must get round to finishing those Perry ones).

I wonder if warlord will do metal minis to go with the new commonwealth frame?

@Ultravanillasmurf:
The metal one in your picture is Artizan, but otherwise I have to fully agree with your statement.

I have put them together. I have tried to form a small SAS unit.
I would agree with all the above comments. Perry minis are decidedly smaller than Warlord. I think you may struggle to make the Warlord heads look quite right on the Perry figures.

It was one of the Warlord Early War / BEF figures.

I do not know who has the moulds now, I bought them back in 2012.

Look pretty good assembled.

And thanks chaps re Warlord heads on Perry Bodies.  Definitely won't be trying that.   :)

I tried using Warlord heads on 1/48th Airfix for some Helmand Paras - still too big!

The variation in heads on their sprues is fantastic! They seem to be gold for the humble converter.   :-*
