Only 20 years late to the party: a Skaven Mordheim warband
« on: January 19, 2019, 05:37:41 PM »
Having always liked Mordheim and indeed the idea of Mordheim, it's strange how it ended up taking so long to finally get started on a warband. Some time ago, I purchased a set of the plastic Clanrats for the basic troopers and a box of the Bloodbowl Skaven to create the characters. Then, the Shadespire ratmen were released, which also looked rather perfect, so when they arrived I felt I should finally get started. The full starting gang for the "Shadows on the Wall" is now built - just to paint them. Plus add reinforcements. Maybe even get a game in within the next decade?

The Assassin Adept "Creeping Death", armed with fighting claws.

The Eshin Sorcerer "Prowler", armed with a spear.

Black Skaven "Tailgunner", armed with a warplock pistol, sword and dagger.

Black Skaven "Jawbreaker", armed with a flail.

The two Night Runners "Night Crawler" and "The Ripper", with club, dagger and sling; and spear and sling respectively.

Verminkin "Killers", with spear and sling.

Verminkin "Wrecking Crew", with clubs and daggers.

And the whole gang minus the two Black Skaven which I only finished today, with Giant Rat "Rat Salad" in there too. Yes, there is a recurring theme with all these names...

those are absolutely brilliant  :-*

shaping up to be one of the best skaven warbands around I reckon (figs-wise anyhow!).

I'm in a similar position of only just gettin into the game (or hoping to anyway) - but although I've hoovered up all sorts of miniatures, I doubt I'll do anything as well-done as these. Superb kit-bashing and green-stuffing.

inspiring stuff.

Yep, awesome stuff. Really sublime conversions. Can't wait to see some paint on them.

Some very nice conversions, they have a real sense of movement.

No idea on the theme, some album or other? Or film? Mime it for us and we might guess.

The names are all heavy-metal songs, are they not?

Night Crawler, Jawbreaker and The Ripper are Judas Priest.

Rat Salad is Black Sabbath.

Killers, Prowler and Tailgunner are Iron Maiden.

Creeping Death is Metallica.

Great conversions!

Oh dear, you know you've left it a while when the forum warns you:

In my defence, I only paint with natural daylight, and there is precious little of that in the northern Finnish winter. And in early spring, I had the great strategy of breaking a finger, which hardly helps. What's my excuse now? Well, there is none, so let's start getting some paint on things, finally!

First verminkin done, bit of a test model. Don't just want everything in black, so dirty off-white and maybe dark blue for characters, with dark brown leather armour should provide some variety. Painted to be rather more hairy than how GW makes them, with covered snouts and limbs. More big rat than human. Still experimenting a bit with rust effects, though that's not well visible from this angle. Plenty more on upcoming models though, the next 5 are ready to be done soon.. well, one of them this afternoon at least, the rest certainly this summer. Already started building another 3 warbands (Witch Hunters, Undead and Mercenaries, all made predominantly from plastic Empire kits), and I might do a second Skaven band later (Clan Skurvy. Because rat pirates.) from leftover parts.

Excellent stuff.  The Shadespire boxes are really nice little sets.  One of the only GW products I can endorse.

Those conversions are gorgeous!!  The painted figure does not disappoint.

Mordheim is my favorite skirmish game of all time.  We still play it in my group (albeit generally collaboratively).
