Baobabs are on my 'to-do' list :)

Excellent work in this thread!

Great project.

Looks like the baobab that Plynkes suggested is no longer available  :(

Well that's a bit of a shame. I guess we'll all have to follow the pointers in this thread then.

This might explain why Baobabs have such big scars along their base:

And then goats get to the inner wood once the bark is compromised.

I’m learning more than I ever thought I needed to know about these trees! :)

Anyway, I already started on another one, much smaller though, and I plan to paint them all at the same time.  So I’ll be posting new photos soon.

Looking good so far! I may try to make some as I have colonials in 28 and cold war africa in 20 that could both use something distinctively African to set the scene...

"Sir, I regret to tell you we have a quite serious elephant infestation in our baobab plantation. They have gotten under the bark and are digging canals. Shall I call the fumigators?"

That's just mean, the elephant has just mistaken that hole for a telephone booth, all he want to do is make a trunk call back to his mum!

Soldado:  “That's just mean, the elephant has just mistaken that hole for a telephone booth, all he want to do is make a trunk call back to his mum!”

lol I’m sure the hole was very tiny (if there was even one there to begin with) when the elephant found it and got busy expanding it.

I guess they are more like us than most people want to believe.  They have no problem reshaping their environment when they need to.  Or when they simply feel like it.  Or when they just want to see how far they can push the envelope of creativity via their massive strength.  But mainly because very few creatures are crazy enough to try to stand in their way or to dare tell them no.
