King Cnut by Gripping Beast
« on: February 01, 2019, 02:18:57 PM »
It was my pleasure to paint these lovely models a few weeks back, but I had to wait until Gripping Beast released them before I could share the pics.

I love the realistic proportions on them and Cnut looks like a very tall dude in 28mm scale (as opposed to a normal dude in 32mm scale), which is probably the idea. To facilitate the sculpt, there are a few component parts (the axes and hands for example) that need glueing/pinning in place. Enjoy!

Wow, pretty nice, I don't usually rate GB stuff but these are damn decent.

Wonderful paint work too.

Blimey. Did they hire Tom Meier? This certainly has the look of one of his...

Nice painting Cubs. Looks almost like one of Oniria’s oil painting style master works.

Lovely figure. Lovely paint.

Agree with Nord - entirely uncharacteristic of Gripping Beast who have gone quite far down the munchkin path over the last few years...

Aren't you glad that you remembered to turn autocorrect off?

Thanks for the kindnesses, very generous! Cnut is one of those words that do cause a double-take fer shewer.

The only problem I had was with the right hand on the mounted version. I had to pin it with a flexible bit of wire so I could bend it round and hold it properly in place and then use a tiny bit of greenstuff to plug a gap in the wrist. Perhaps it would have been fine with glue alone, but I don't like to chance it.

PS. Sculptor was someone called Angel Terol, who I've not heard of before. I hope I get the chance to paint more of their stuff, because it's a peach of a sculpt.

I really like that. Superb piece of work all round, sculpt and painting. It will be interesting to see whether people sniff at it. There seems to be a view that wargames figures SHOULD be distorted. In the past I have literally watched people ignore realistically proportioned figures and select caricatures.

Yes, Angel is part of the Oniria stable, hence the reason it came to my mind I guess. In fact Oniria himself is called Angel - don’t know if he’s the same Angel as the sculptor though. He’s a member here, so maybe he’ll be along at some point and will let us know  ;)

Outstanding models and paint jobs! Just lovely.

Angel Terol does the occasional character model for GB. A few years ago he sculpted a wonderful El Cid.
