Another "chopper" question.
What is the best way to represent the helicopter rotors in a model destined for the war-games table ? How do you do it ?
All best
Jonathan

Pretty much what Carlos has said. I use the Corgi Diecast and the blades do spin round, not that you want to keep spinning them. They come out for storage and also fold up.

I thought about using a thin Perspex disc but its a bit of a hassle tbh and I am not sure the effect would be that much better.

However I do have some plastic kits to do and may need to give them some thought as they are the big H-34's and the blades curve upwards in flight but down when landed so I may create discs for those. Not sure yet.  ???

Does this mean I'm the only one that runs round the gaming room, constantly flicking the blades and making 'whoppa, whoppa, whoppa' noises or humming the Ride of the Valkyries......

That is the main reason I include choppers in my games..

Most kind all.
I find many of the 1/48 scale helicopter kits seem to be very expensive and in very short supply. I assume one follows the other ! (;-)

I suppose that depends on where you are but even here, at the arse end of the world, I've found decent bargains like an Italeri Huey for $20AUD. Model shows (when they return post Covid) are a good source of stuff.

Whilst they aren't perfect, the Hobby Boss Hueys are a decent buy if you aren't finicky about type and fancy a generic UH-1 proxy. They retail her for around the $22-25 mark and are 'Easy Build' types that any fool can put together.

They are nominally UH-1Cs but lack any weapons for what was mostly a gunship model. With a little bit of work you can make an acceptable  UH-1B proxy or use mostly as is as USMC UH-1 E models, which did see use in a slick mode, albeit mostly for command and control.

A look on various sites shows that you can still pick up the 1/55 New Ray CH-46 for around the $40  mark as well as their 1/60 Chinook.

Happy hunting!

Had some pictures sent to us at Empress of Vietnam figures from the collection of Vasiliy Levashov. Superb work and worth sharing on here as inspiration. ;)

Paul
Any chance of some helicopter crews - maybe a pair of gunners and a crew chief looking out the back ramp or front hatchway suitable for the USMC Sea Knight ?

Also I would welcome any suggestions/tutorials as to how people mount their helicopter models onto their stands.

many thanks
JM
