Were do I find OOBs for the US Marines and the 101st air cavalry ? I need to know the Platoon composition or a company composition so i can order accordingly. Any help appreciated !

Presuming you to mean the 101st Airborne Division, the answer is a little complex. Do you want the platoon structure for the infantry battalions or the aero-rifle platoons of the divisional Air Cavalry Squadron? Both are different. By the by, the current range of USMC troops aren’t really suitable for depicting US Army troops so you will have to wait until Empress get around to the army.

For the platoons of infantry battalions, it’s worth noting that there were probably a couple of dozen if not more individual variations to the TO&E but the basic paper strength pattern is as follows:

PHQ consisting of a platoon commander, a platoon sergeant, a medic and an RTO.

3X Rifle Squads, each of ten men, nominally divided into two fireteams, each of five men, four of whom carried M-16s with the fifth being a grenadier. Included in the numbers were a squad leader (sergeant) and an assistant squad leader (corporal).

1X Weapons Squad of nominally eleven men consisting of a squad leader, 2X machine gun teams, each of two men, one or two M67 90mm RCL teams of two men and another pair of ammunition bearers for the M-60s. The weapons squad was where much of the variation, official and semi-official took place. The RCLs were rarely carried on patrol, so as often as not the spare bodies were utilised as extra ammo numbers for the machine guns, that’s when they weren’t used as a pool of replacements or used to man base defences.

Mechanised units had a slightly different TO&E.

All US Army divisions had an air cavalry squadron as a divisional asset. The ground component consisted of Aerorifle Platoons which were organised very differently to the structure above. Let me know if that was in fact what you meant. To confuse things further, the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) had cavalry squadrons and troops and companies, organised as leg infantry as well as the Aerorifle platoons in its own Divisional Aircavalry Squadron.

Any chance of a sticky based on this type of information? I needed to find it again and I had read it before.

Just beware that page is describing US Army items. Whilst the Marines by the late ‘60s were using quite a bit of kit from the US Army supply chain and certain items like uniforms were common to both services, many items, in particular rucksacks and flak vests, were not commonly used by the USMC.

When you get around to doing early war marines that extends to their web equipment, which was of a unique USMC pattern

This site has a more comprehensive overview of personal equipment used by both services.

Thank you Carlos  ;)

I also found this link: http://david.brubakers.us/Vietnam/index.html
Very useful information on all the gear.

Good link. Interesting to see just how different the 1960's M1 helmet was from it's WW2 counterpart, I'm surprised it didn't have an upgraded designation.`

Just a thought; would the USMC have been using 1967 pattern webbing in Jan '68? Seems a tad too soon for it to be issued

Well after that there will be another torrent, then a flood, then a.......etc so my advice Mick is to just grab the stuff when you can as this tap is not going to be turned off anytime soon. Oh and don't forget the vehicles to come soon. ;)

Have been following this thread with great interest. The figures as you’d expect are outstanding.  I am looking forward to the direction it follows with its future releases...which leads me to a request if it hasn’t already been raised...could we get a Don McCullin press photographer figure...I think it will be a worthy addition to this range in recognition of his haunting images that he took during the siege?

For the future how about Larry Burrows and Tim Page?
