In fairness even the US State Department got the message, albeit thirty years afterwards, and tore it down. There’s a new consulate building next to where the old embassy stood.
The original embassy building still survives, the one that featured in the Tet attack was newly built in 1967. It survived a pretty major car bomb. How long it will continue to survive is another thing. Rampant capitalism has driven a massive construction drive, quite a lot of Vietnam era buildings have been torn down in very recent times. It’s a bit depressing for history buffs but I suppose that’s progress.
