I love the NVA figures, and as im investing very heavily in this, i love the NVA and their sculpting.

Any idea on Vallejo paints for the NVA?

I think the biggest problem is that the brim is too flat. They would look fine on Colonial French or Italians but they don’t really look convincing for Vietnam.

The brim on the original article is actually quite steeply angled, the crown and the panel seams tend not to be as prominent.

Sorry to carp but heavily invested in this and wanting the best available sculpts.

Well we had best check it and do a bit of reshaping.  ;)

Although the shape in real life is all over the place, which given the manufacturing methods and wear and tear is not surprising. However its sometimes difficult to discover what is authentic and what is not. eg

The obviously modern version is very wrong to the others.

Mix ‘n’ match your greens, just like the originals. To tie mine together I’ve been using the somewhat ironically titled (given the circumstances) ‘Gunship Green’ but ‘Olive Grey’, Yellow Green and all kinds of green have featured as contrasts. Panzer Colours reed green isn’t bad. Webbing seems to have been a total mix from pale, through mid khaki to some fairly brightish greens when new. They thing is just to provide a bit of contrast.

Funnily enough, given that uniforms personal equipment and webbing were often sourced from China and weapons from the Soviet Union or China, often the only things a PAVN soldier might be wearing that were Vietnamese made were the pith helmet and his Ho Chi Minh sandals.

Good man!

So which shape do you like from the four pictures above. The very green one , third one down, looks correct to your pictures but the other three are actual originals and are all close to the sculpt although all slightly different in the angle of the brim.

Just want to get it  right and stop Paul swearing at me  lol

I like the green one cos it actually does look like the majority of period photos that I’ve seen. Not saying there weren’t variations, quite obviously there were, but all of ‘em have more sharply downward angled brims than the sculpts appear to.

I’ll readily admit I want these for more than just facing off against US marines and the like. I’m interested in using them for 1972, ‘75 and the 1978/79 invasion of Cambodia. The more uniform, regular look obviously appeals.

My 2 cents worth on the helmets.
The third picture of the group is what most helmets
I have seen look like.
