When nothing dries
« on: February 24, 2019, 03:34:25 PM »
I've experienced paint not drying previously here in Malta - especially in our rather damp cellar - but today it's really bad. It's a stormy day with strong winds (including the highest wind speed ever recorded here, apparently). A good day to stay in and paint. So far I've had washes refusing to dry; paints refusing to dry; water effect resin refusing to dry (after at least 24 hours) - still utterly liquid, and it's a very thin layer; and now even cyanoactrylate glue, which makes no sense as a touch of damp makes it solidify and it actually remained wet!

All things given I can't complain - I finished a small rowboat and a goblin yesterday, and a couple of 15 mm tanks and a lock gate (now I have to build the lock...) today, but most of these just needed detailing, dirtying up or (in the case of the goblin) both and a wash - good job I finished him yesterday as otherwise he'd be dripping still..

A friend used to use a UV light to speed up drying, would that help you?
My father always had a soft spot for Malta, he was stationed there in WW2.
I too think fondly of it as my wife & I honeymooned there.
Good luck on getting things to dry.

Might be worth a try, thanks.
Heh - we honeymooned here too, we were a bit short of cash. But we did manage to spend 3 weeks in Gozo at least. Which was fine, except we had a shepherd waking us up early in the morning calling his flock! It was a bit of a laugh though, especially the names he called his sheep!  :D

We went to Gozo for a day-trip.
Taxi driver asked us where (in the UK) we came from.
We told him, 'Rugby, in the Midlands'.
'How far from the coast' he asked.
'depends which coast, but about one to two hours'
He laughed, 'Gozo 10 minutes tops!'

We also had fun buying a ticket for the ferry over from Malta.
No mater how hard we looked we couldn't find anywhere to buy a
ticket from, then a kind person took pity on us and said, 'you buy
the ticket when you get off at Gozo' We thought that odd until he
pointed out, 'where else are you gonna go, but back to Malta?'
