40mm Greek style weapons...?
« on: February 26, 2019, 12:20:57 PM »
Yeah, Bob's got another bee in his bonnet... ::)

I want to do a conversion for a deity for an OGAM force, and find myself needing ancient Greek weapons that would fit a 40mm (ish) figure.

A sword (any style - kopis/falcata/xiphos) and shield would be good, spear or trident would work. Don't mind if they are slightly fantastical as its for a god, obviously...

Does anyone make loose ones, or am I going to have to buy a whole figure and lop bits off?  :(

Get a large pin, bend it to the shape (curve etc.) you want (e.g. to become a Kopis/Greek sword)
Then while holding it with a pair of pliers (not your fingers!) hit it 'ard wiv a hammer.
Cut the remaining (straight) bit to the length you want. Drill into the god's hand & glue the
straight bit in place. When it has set use a bit of Miliput/greenstuf to make a suitable crossguard.

That could be a last resort, thanks.

I'd prefer to take an easier option if there is one, as I'm not a gifted scratchbuilder, and well, you know...effort...

I will bear it in mind if there's not an easier alternative though.

You could look at the cheap shops e.g. Poundland, for larger scale toys, even robots.
These things often come with separate weapons. They are easily cut/modified and
could provide, not only god-like bladed weapons, but 'thunderbolts' or similar.
Worth a look at any source of (no longer wanted) toys:-
Car booters; own or other peoples children's toy boxes; Charity shops; Free-cycle etc.
