Samurai Convention Game
« on: June 10, 2009, 10:37:49 PM »
Here are pics of my samurai convention game at the Recruits convention.

It was with my friend Baron Von Jaye and it was using the Song of Blades and Heroes Rules. 8 factions, all to steal The Relics of True Divine Rule.

Ronin, Ninja, Clans, Emperors guards, etc.

It was won by a nefarious ninja clan who destroyed the relics and put the rule of misty Nippon in turnoil forever! Hope you enjoy.

Terrain is scratch built except the Torii Arch, the bridge, and the mountains.

Figs are Old Citadel Oriental HEroes, Old Glory, and L5R. Painted a long time ago.

It was fun but hectic. We had 300pt plus heroes with 7-8 specials. We broke every rule about force composition from SoBH, but we were going after cinematic, and in the end we got it. The players played it themselves without us after he first two turns.

We also lots of twisted, secret motivations that led to a lotof back stabbing, which is always fun in these kind of games. Thanks to Ken Van Pelt for the images.
These rules are great fun.

Great looking table...nice looking terrain and figures. I really like some of your photos...really gives the viewer a feel that it is a realisitc event, only in miniature. The red tree representing a blossoming tree is really stunning as well. Thanks for sharing.
Victory is guaranteed to the last man standing, but always remember those whom you stepped on to get there!!

You used only the basic rules? or any supplement (SGD, SWW), too?
Congratulations and thanks for sharing

We used the 3 basic books, but not SoAM.

We had a cap of around 500pts per warband. One Warband only had 3 heroes in it with no regular troops. With 7-8 specials each. HEctic, but made for some deadly combinations.

In the end it was balanced by the other opposing warbands and the scenario.

Oh hell yes! More inspiration for my Chinese fantasy game I ahve coming up in t-minus 22 days. Nice looking table and a fun looking game.
So teh Song series really worked for it? I've just been hammering together a simple game using the dice from the Milton Bradley Heroquest game (shields, skulls, snake) and the old Siege of the Citadel dice because I can't be bothered out to actaully read numbers by the last game of the day.
