SYW Russians
« on: March 02, 2019, 08:23:49 AM »
Trying to get my SYW Russians off the ground. The picture below is as far as I have got to date. I hoping to get another battalion done soon to make it a basic starter force for a game.

Nice work!
It looks like you've got them in full coats rather than the "light order" in waistcoats that's usually preferred?

Thanks for the comment. Yes I prefer the full dress. I like the contrast of dark green coat and red facings.

Sorry about the photo. The foot are Front Rank. The general is Foundry and the hussars are Crusader.

Lovely work on the Russians, I agree with you about the full dress, it looks the part in my opinion. :)

Nice job.

If you want to paint them up fast, might I suggest the Foundry Russians in summer dress - very quick to paint, especially those in rain capes.

It will make your life much easier for you - and I'm speaking from experience, because I had to paint this lot fast for a Zorndorf game.

Thanks James. I like the Fronk Rank figures for my infantry which come in full dress.

I am a frequent visitor to your blog. Your SYW armies are amazing and a real inspiration to me to keep going with the painting.

That said at least my Serbian Hussars are wearing the correct fur hats!  lol

Reduced price, reduced hats.

Actually, when I bought them the hat size wasn't specified (reason for ebay sale?), but a bag of 30 for £15 was a bargain in any event. I had to use them for something and I'm not doing French. It was a 'bite the bullet' moment. I could have resold them but, I thought no one would be so pedantic as to query hat height. What a fool am I? ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not sure I would have noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out yourself on your blog  lol

But if we are talking of pedantry, where is the large loop decoration on the trousers and the imperial cypher on the sabretache? You have compounded these poor fellows shame  lol
