Since I'm down here in Paradise,

Maybe I'll stop at a bar and have a fruity tropical drink with an umbrella in it.  That way I can have the traditional top......

The egg almost reminds me of the newer "Mars Attacks" tripod dome!  So a century too NEW!

 :D

I cut off the sprue a tank from AQMF, the boxed game from a couple of years ago.  It's 15mm, just kind of snapped the treads and body together for a quick scale reference.

Hmmmmm...........the Tripod looks pretty tall!

Seems a bit big? But from parts in the book, you could see a Martian tripod behind a treeline, so I suppose it's a question of personal preference.  ;)

And the one's pictured even tower over three story houses. So I think go with what you think looks right. Unless we have to call the British museum and ask them to show the parts of the walker so we can take some accurate measurements and produce a to scale model.  lol

Reading HG, they tower over houses and trees.  So probably it's okay, if I fix the top dome/cupola part.  I'll put up some 15mm foot to compare too, then some 25's.

Day by day.....

Agree the Easter egg dome looks odd.  As to painting plastic, some of it will be very problematic for taking paint but always wash it will first and for something as smooth as that dome (if you keep it) I'd try roughing it up some low grit snapper (like 60) and then hit with an automotive spray primer - at the possible risk of melting the plastic through chemical interaction.

Just how tall is your model in inches?  I ask to get some guidance in your concern about 15 mm versus larger scale.

The black spray paint on there is metal primer by Dupont,

Good stuff for coating outdoors metal chairs, stands, etc.  Seems to go on flat and coats well.  I had the choice of using regular Testors model paint, but decided with the metal parts, to go Dupont.

The model without the egg, is 8 1/4" tall to the top of the rubber dome.  I saw some small "sand art funnels" on the Hobby Lobby site, they should fit the top of the cauldron just fine.  Cheap too, I'll pick some up tomorrow.  So with that, might be 8 1/2" tall.

Priced some auto cable, dang, that is a bit expensive.  So got to think of some other type of material for the arms......and the tentacles.........

Funnels sound right from some of the images seen, much better than the egg shape.  For your arms, maybe insulated electrical wires, depending on gauge both flexible and some rigidity - smaller gauges being more flexible.  And you can strip either end of your wire lengths for attaching to both the main body and any "hands" at the ends of the arms.

I had some water tank templates copied and printed out from online searches,

For that cupola shape for the funnel.  I built one, but I'm not liking how it is turning out.  From my reading, aren't the heat beams held by the 'hands' on the cables?

So here is the one cut cupola/funnel top,

Looks okay, but I think I can do better!  I think you have to cut a small circle in the cardboard template at the center, so it "bends" into the circular shape better.

I built a 15mm Tripod from AQMF, it is right around 5 inches tall including the base.

The one I'm building is over 8" tall.  With no base, yet!

Had another thought, was hanging pictures for my better half the other day.  What about the wire used to hang pictures???  It is pretty thick, I can cut it and pick apart the end for "hands".

Check out this comparison photo, for scale purposes.  15mm vs......what?

Great progress!  :D

Picture frame wire? I imagine that'd be hard to paint and keep in place. Paint might flake off when just slightly bent.  ???
