Lord of the Rings Conversions - Rohirrim Centaur
« on: March 08, 2019, 05:34:22 PM »
I have very much fallen out of love with painting of late and consequently my already slow progress has ground to almost a dead-stop. Which is not to say I have not continued to buy things in earnest but things are starting to pile up even more than usual!

In an effort to keep doing something in the hobby, I have taken to converting some of the GW plastic figures which I have acquired. Notionally it's all for the same project but should also lend itself to smaller, skirmish games like Frostgrave or Rangers of Shadow Deep along the way. I am quite pleased with my work so far and thought other may be interested.

Apologies for the poor lighting and awkward paint job but photos below! Do let me know what you think.

Thanks

When I read the title of your post my first thought was, Blasphemer! But that is actually pretty cool.

It's just a more literal interpretation of the Horse Lords of Rohan! I've also done some work on the plastic Dwarven Rangers which I'll share in due course.

Great idea and execution.

Not sure what Tolkien would say about this  :D but I like it!

What they all said ^

That went really well together. Great job and good imagination. Was it a difficult piece to put together? Do you have a mini-tutorial?

I used the lord of the rings Rohirrim and sliced him off just below the belt. For the horse half, I used Nubidian light cavalry from Victrix as they don't have saddles or saddle cloths. I cut that off just above the shoulders and then it was just trial and error and lots of filing to get the two pieces to marry up nicely. Finished it off with a greenstuff cloak and padded leather armour on the front. I would like to do eleven more (eek!) so can do more of a step-by-step if you're interested.

In the meantime, I have started work on a Dwarven wizard which I'll use as a chronomancer for Frostgrave. He was originally an archer from the GW Dwarf Rangers
