Burn Baby, Burn! A Trench Hammer AAR
« on: February 13, 2019, 06:33:08 AM »
We broke out Trench Hammer again on Sunday to play a German trench raid to capture British prisoners. The full AAR is on my blog with plenty of pictures! Check it out here:

I also really enjoy the Trench Hammer rules. But a question:

The Germans have 3 Stosstuppen units, 2 units of Grenadiers. 2 machine guns and a Flammenwerfer unit. That's 7 units under the control of the one Leader. Do you still roll only the two dice and pick the best D6 to represent the activations? Even with a natural 6 rolled, you cannot move all your units. I mean that is OK, it does add some "friction" and uncertainty to the game. It's just when I do my activation rolls, I'd be leaving half the team inactivated.......and usually standing out in the open.

Thanks! Yes, we only used the best roll of two D6s for activation. TBH, it's not something that had crossed my mind until you've pointed it out now. As you say, I think it adds a certain amount of friction. It also makes sure that the players ensure their men are not caught in the open and use the cover to their best advantage. I guess a solution would be to add more leaders and an equal amount of activation dice rolls. Next game we are going to try the Too Fat Lardies card activation though.

Great looking game. I have been interested in getting this trench set to use with 28mm WW1 and 20mm Modern. What scale minis are you uesing in this game?

Thanks, it's an excellent set. The figures are 15mm, which work very well with the trench, IMO
