Versatility is no excuse for poor quality.

I was very excited to see these advertised, and pre ordered. I spent last night assembling the HQ and one squad. I was mildly disappointed with a couple of aspects.
1. The kneeling figures particularly, it's very difficult to get a good fit on the separate leg. I had to apply enough liquid cement to melt into the gaps and clamp them.
2. The variety of bits, is a bit disappointing, one of the advantages of plastic for me was adding extras and so on. Other than additional ammo pouches and bayonet scabbards, there's little else to customise these.
3. Not enough packs to do entire squads.
On the bright side, they are very nice minis and should paint up very well. When done it will be interesting to compare with the Warlord Games plastics.

I’ ve painted these a week ago but didn’t post them here:

What can I say..They are Perry WW2 plastics. I like the poses and the detail of the weapons. Not enough packs. The real let down are the heads tho. The faces look un-perrylike strange and the helmets are a little off as well. Damn. I was really hoping for a great kit as the Warlord one was a little let down as well.
I’d give it 7/10.
I actually am a bit frustrated  :'(

Reading the above comments has left me feeling disappointed when considering purchasing their plastic WW2 American.

I shall have to ponder about this a little more.

Thank you for your thoughts.
Best wishes,
Helen

Those look far better than the Warlord GI figures.

Well, I’m the end it comes down to personal preference.
I don’t prefer one over the other. They each have their merits.

Nice painting.

The faces look human rather than a 'seventies action comic.

The way you've finished them so well, I'm sure from a tabletop distance nobody would be able to tell the difference in manufacturer.  Like your painting style.

Has anyone else painted some up in the meantime?

That's a lovely paint job. I have a platoon, that won't look so great but will be good enough. Will post pics when they are done.

They look pretty good to me. But I've decided I have far too much to do for now without branching out into Americans.

Like UVS, I certainly prefer the (relatively) naturalistic Perry style to the War Picture Library / Commando comic look of the Warlord figures. Like most of Warlord's WW2 output, they're just too cartoony for my taste. I prefer character over caricature :)

While I'm not exactly known as a Perry-fanboy I couldn't withstand the temptation  lol

for a full review and my conclusion you may want to head over to my blog:

@Richard:
I'm pretty sure that with the use of some spare parts fron their 8th Army and DAK sets you could create just as many poses extraordinaire as you did with the rest of your collection. Come on, you know you want these  ;)

I do, you're right - but I have so much to do and so little time to do it!  lol
Great review. Thank you.

If these scale in so well with other 28mm ranges, that sounds as though Michael Perry has deliberately made these a bit bigger in size and stature, because the 'true 1/56 scale' 8th Army and DAK Perry sets were most definitely much smaller and slighter in build than regular 28mm wargames minaitures...
