Mining town
« on: March 12, 2019, 10:40:25 PM »
I've been thinking for a while about the idea of building a board which may harbour a small mining town in the desert, maybe showing the entrance to the mines/catacombs I'm already (sloooowly) building for my Genestealer Cult. I was having too many silly ideas at the same time, so I needed to make up my mind. The best (and only) way to make it happen was starting to actually build something. This will require some extra planning (which has never been my strong point!), but I'm highly motivated. So hey ho let's go.

The very first thing I'm doing is a tiny spaceport. I found this Danish butter cookies box, so I knew I had no further decision to make:

I made a door with foamboard, as well as a few pillars:

I guess this gives you a better idea of what was in my mind:

It will be part of a larger structure, but for practical purposes, I thought it would be better if I painted the inner spaceport first and then built the rest of the structure around it. The other way around may prove unnecesarily challenging. So this is what I came up with:

A close up of the fire extinguisher (safety first!), a toolbox, gas cans... I should add some tools and dirty stuff, but it works for the moment:

It's but a humble start, but I'm already working on the rest of the building. I'll show as soon as I have something decent and then will elaborate about my ideas, as it will be easier to explain with a couple of pics ::)

For now here you have the blog post: http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com/2019/03/inner-spaceport.html

It's going to take me some time at my ridiculously slow pace, so wish me luck!

Looking good so far  8)

I like the use of white for the walls, it’s a good contrast  :)

Thank you very much! Now I know perfectly how to do the bottom of a lift shaft for my abandoned subway station.

Very nice work. I always like how the addition of just a few elements can totally transform a shape. And the painting just closes the deal.

But will it only be a scenic element? Or will there be some stairs? Because right now, it's a bit like a haunted house of mirrors for miniatures; 'a thousand ways in, but no way out...' ;)
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

I like your thinking, sir.
Build the interior, paint, then add to it.

And a jolly nice result too!

Thank you all! It's going to be a very long way, but I think it will be fun. Of course if I've made a spaceport, I'll be needing some tiny ships of any kind too ;)
I'm dealing with the outer structure, but I'm facing some unexpected mishaps (which in fact should have been totally expected :D), as I'm changing my mind about where to place everything like every ten minutes or so ;D

lol I'm giving shape to what's around the space garage. Unfortunately the door will have to remain closed; the can opener was too much even for me :D
