I am a big fan of making a master sculpt, and then re-casting it. For consistency (and sanity) that works much better for me. Plus, I feel like it is less of a hassle to put a lot of energy into a single creation, and then know I don't have to try and replicate it. Plus, if you want to make them unique, it is easier to add a little something to a full re-cast than try to make each piece unique.

Great work! This is one of my favorite threads to follow.

Thank you! I'm taking a break for a few days so I can work on regular minis, but next stage is already in mind :). It will be the start of the main street, the one which will eventually lead to the spaceport. It might take a few stages, but the planning looks good in my mind.

Awesome stuff, and it just keeps getting better. The only criticism I can offer is that all buildings seem to be very much in the same 90 degrees alignment, a bit of angling and shifting would give a more alive feeling I think.

Wow, I hadn't thought of that and now that you mention, it looks super obvious. I really have to give it a thought. Thanks for the input!

Well, apparently Tinypic has crossed me >:(. I'm struggling to slowly recover seven years of blog pics manually, and so I'll have to do over here on the forum. But for now I keep on making some progress on this board.

I got to a point in which I couldn't move forward until I finished the previous stuff. Specifically the rock cut houses:

If I built anything just there on the central section, I wouldn't be able to reach the inner parts with the brushes later on. So I started painting the doors and adding details...

Really easy; that large tube is but the case of an old brush, for example. That open plaza kind of unsettled me, but I wasn't sure of what to put there. I finally used a cologne tap -with some bits and rubbish glued randomly:

I added some lights and also some small signs over the doors; after all, they are block houses, the mailman has to identify them! (so he can deliver the next kickstarter full of minis, of course :D). The rest was a matter of AC units, tubes and wires:

I kind of wanted more level of detail, but I had to stop. This is a board, so it has to be playable, and I'm forcing the tiny spaces there. This is the compromise between a board and a doll house ;D
So now you get an idea of what will I try to achieve on the rest of the board:

It seems that I have some work ahead, glups!

Looking at doors on the right side stack, far up on the building wall, with small rails below them just about wide enough to slide in a walkway, I'm guessing.

... or jump. It would ensure you never have to bother getting back up!  lol

Thank you! Your comments are highly encouraging :)
It's a slow work (and given recent news from the job, implying flying away some months far for home, it will be stagnated for a while :'(), but it's quite a fun one.

how will figures transit between that plaza and the main walkway areas?

When I build the central building in front of that open space there will be a catwalk/bridge/whatever I can get from scratch :D. For the doors up on the wall I'm working on these:

I hope I'll be able to show better pics anytime soon.

This is coming along really nicely, it'll be a cracking board to game on once finished.
