Slow progress is still progress. I've finished the wall and the corner. First of all I finished the platforms:

Then gave some texture to the street. I used some DAS putty and a rolling pin on a piece of paper...

...then glued it to the floor itself:

Easier than I thought ;D

I tried an experiment with prayer flags (keyword here is tried :?)

I didn't like them, I'll try again when I weather them a little bit.
This is how it looks like at the moment:

Now I can build the central section! Or maybe I can start decorating the other parts of the board. Even better, I can start something totally different! ;D

Don't give up on those prayer flags. They add a lively touch already....

Flags seem a little... jolly for a mining town.

How about power cables, illegal antenna wires or laundry instead?

Ohh, and this is a very cool project. Often large buildings arent that interactive but this offers so many options for placing and moving models around, and the roof doesnt even come off, which preserves the look of the thing.

I like them too.
The only thing that does not quite look quite 'right' about them is they are all perpendicular to the string.
Tweaking them slightly so that they all 'drop' as if gravity was at work would solve that.

That, and faded colours, frayed ends etc. and they will fit right in, and still add that touch...

This is such an epic build already! 8)

That's what I was thinking, would be better of it all looks a bit wind blown and torn? Maybe get colored crafting paper (the krinkly kind) cut flaps and drench it in diluted PVA?

Either way, this build just keeps getting better and better.

I'm with YPU on this: prayer flags are ALWAYS rapidly damaged, since they usually are made of very cheap fabric. I just got back from Tibet, i've that pretty clear in mind. :)

Also, they usually have all the very same shape (in the same row, but it's common to have several strands overlapping).

I really like the effect they give to the table anyways! <3

I liked the prayer flags. In real life they tend to be more muted in color from being in the sun. Oh, and probably being printed on materials that are dyed vice color fast. I'm sure they lose a little of the rich color every time it rains. Can you dip those in some water and see if the ink comes out of the paper a bit?

Thank you all! As soon as I can spare some time I will most certainly take your advice. Thanks for the encouragement, the flags are definitely in ;)
