This is incredible! Really evocative of the look you're aiming for and interesting and innovative at the same time.

Thank you! It's kind of a straightforward work for now, I'll try to spice it up ;)

I would be tempted to add another building on that balcony area....
 ;)

Now that you mention it... :P

I planned another block piece. To make it a little more interesting I wanted an open access. You can see, the stairs thing:

The idea involves a catwalk turning around the corner of the big building and reaching the rooftop. So I was designing a closed hut for that part, meaning that any mini getting there should enter it and would appear downstairs next turn. But when I was at this stage I gave the whole thing a second thought:

That is not the concept I'm trying to achieve here. That building is boring and unworthy. ;D

I cut the upper part and redesigned it all:

Now you can follow the whole path of the mini, it looks more interesting and it's still playable. Now I'm happy.

This is the rough shape of what I have by now:

I won't add more buildings here, but I still plan to have tons of tiny details all over. Doors, vents and stuff. I may have to paint at least some parts before I add the catwalks, but that will be an issue for another day...

Isnt it too big to be practical gamingwise?

Thank you!

Practical? Who needs to be practical? ;D

No, seriously, you touched a string there. The thing is that I barely play a RT/40K game a year; I try to make each game count. I've realised over the years that I don't really need a modular, repurposable board I can use in different configurations every few weeks. So I'm indulging myself with this extravaganza, trying to make this... thing, something in between a dollhouse and a gaming board.
I'll try to make it playable, and as large as my storage will allow. I may end up playing just a couple of times, but, oh, I'm enjoying the journey :P

That's more or less what happened to my previous urban board; I used it for three or four years, adding stuff from game to game. In the end it was 120x120 cm. This time I'm kind of replicating that, but exploring the third dimension and making it the cornerstone of the project. I have long term plans, so I hope I can turn them into something real!

I agree that if the whole end of the project is a game you really love, then you can always replay it and replay it. That's a lot of effort but are marvelous albeit it mad result. I can't look away ... more please.

Wow, this is seriously inspired.  Great stuff and I love the verticality of it all!  :)
