No, seriously, you touched a string there. The thing is that I barely play a RT/40K game a year; I try to make each game count. I've realised over the years that I don't really need a modular, repurposable board I can use in different configurations every few weeks. So I'm indulging myself with this extravaganza, trying to make this... thing, something in between a dollhouse and a gaming board.
I'll try to make it playable, and as large as my storage will allow. I may end up playing just a couple of times, but, oh, I'm enjoying the journey :P

Hear hear!

Lovely work,
Both in scope & painting.....

I would just put it on the dining table & enjoy looking at it... my hands are to clumsy to place minis in it.😉

When I played Necromunda , my mates used to pack terrain together just to see me suffer trying to move my minis...... blastards ..... :D

Keep it up

A quick update of what I'm up to these days. I've prepared this piece, which will be the front part of the next section of the board:

You can see, my plan is to display some excavated houses on the rock

That's the plan; making it happen is another story! ;D

This will be it more or less...

I will have to smoothen the rough edges at some point (or maybe make it look more 'rocky', if you know what I mean), but it will do for now. You can see the general idea:

I have a lot of stuff to glue and lots of texture to apply; I think I'll try a colour test before assembling everything, to make it easier later.

More stuff (hopefully) soon!

Love the scale and ambition of this project
Mac

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

You don't do things by halves! I really like the look of that cutout piece and the multiple levels behind it.

Thank you! I've just finished (well... 'finished'... ;D) the next step. You may have noticed the is an arch down right. I built this section to give some depth:

As the whole board is going to be quite monochrome, I thought I could bring in a different touch here. Whitewashing looked the obvious thing to do, kind of a Mediterranean look. So some tiles looked in order too. I tried Andalusian tiles and came with this in the end:

(The sign over the door makes this board suitable for Firefly games too :P)

I though I should paint the rock-cut section before I glued it, or else it would be more difficult later. But once I started, I thought I could try a full colour test, enough of this dull white foamboard:

This morning with some decent sunlight, while I was painting:

The spray is darker than I expected, but I like it anyway, I can work with this. Again, all you can see above is quite crude, I have to work on textures, shapes and tons of details, but the general idea is there!
