single based, (really) fast play ruleset ?
« on: March 22, 2019, 07:30:37 PM »
Hi,

Since I'm currently rebasing my minis, I'm wondering if there is (except chain of command and iron cross) a fast play platoon+ (1figure:1soldier) ruleset for single based figures ?

Fast play especially means no tables or charts (or minimal). Something I can play with a newcomer who will learn the rules in 15 minutes.

thank you !

Bolt Action
That would have been my thought.

I thought Bolt action was a really big book, I always thought it was a quite heavy ruleset !

Well... no. There are lots of admittedly rather nice pictures in the book as well as some background on each unit covered by the core rules. It also contains rather comprehensive examples and pictograms on the specific rules sections. It‘s not my cup of tea (anymore), but it‘s as good a way as any  to get people interested in WW2 wargaming. Especially when they‘re coming from GW type of games.

Have to add my vote to Bolt Action.

Yes it's a big book (especially when you add in the army books) but the core rules are dead simple. Once you know what the six options are then you are away. There are a few more things to learn but you can just use the rules summary for the most part. I played a game with a friend recently. It was our first 2edition game, neither of us had played Bolt Action for about 18 months but we could pretty much play without looking at the rules.

thank you all !

maybe BA is the way to go, especially since it's available in french too.

Is there any problem to play it in 20mm scale ?

Not at all, it plays well in 20mm.

The ranges will look better.

I did wonder about going over to metric for 15mm, but I have my reservations for second edition.

Would echo the above comments. Have played it with younger children and Bolt Action is a very simple set of rules. The dice activation also means that players are involved throughout the game. Have seen somewhere players playing tank wars using metric for 15mm. It seemed to work well. I seem to remember that the movement was in metric but the range of firing stayed in imperial. So the big guns could really pick off the advancing tanks. I could have got that wrong however, it was some time ago.

thank you all. I'll keep the bolt action option, if Iron cross (my current ruleset) doesn't satisfy us (we still never tried it).

Panzerfauste.
It's a fantasy set, but the first edition version worked well for historical skirmishes if you ignored the fantasy bits.
Haven't actually checked the new version to see if it is fundamentally different, but played a demo version at a show and it felt the same.

It says on the site :-

You'll find here freely downloadable miniatures rules and scenarios for many periods, in both French and English language.

I have not found any in English ? am I in the wrong place ?

Sorry, it's significantly rare, but it's a french version only ruleset  :D
