South Sea Islanders
« on: March 23, 2019, 01:15:02 AM »
I finished up a bunch of Bob Murch's (Pulp Figures) South Sea Islanders, Melanesians really, but they will do for Pohnepeians and some other Micronesians (not Chamorros) in a pinch. I would not use them for most Polynesians. These are very nice sculpts and paint very easily. The orange shells represent spondylus shell beads and the white head bands, cowrie beadwork. The freehand work on the kilts are my first attempt at patterned fabrics. Its pretty basic but I am happy with the outcome. I expect more of these will be on my painting table in the future to support a South Seas/Mythos game.

Comments and critique always appreciated.

Very characterful.
They could be Cornish fishermen. For all I know . It's not a part of the world I know anything about. So there's nothing I add about the period look .Other than a more pronounced colour contrast between the rifle furniture and the skin tone would complement the effort you've lavished on the clothes.

Mark.

Thanks Mark. That was actually a concern of mine. Perhaps a mix of burned sienna and some yellow/khaki.

Lovely stuff - I like the patterned kilts.
